From White 2 Tea

Qilan oolong tea is a traditional Wuyi tea from the Fujian province of China.

The Qilan Fire has a light/medium roast that accentuates the mineral body of the tea.

This tea was made by the same farmer and is made from the same material as the Qilan Trees, which is more soft and elegant by comparison. These two teas were offered side-by-side in the tea club as an educational set and we recommend trying them as a pair.

Lovely roasty nose with floral and fruity undertones. Brews a smooth lightly roast cup with a present florality, nice mineral notes build alongside the sweetness with each brew. The key attribute of this tea is its lingering, soft, and sweet aftertaste which lasts long after the last brew. At times the tea was a bit nutty/oily and had a nice thick mouthfeel. Unfortunately I just ran out of my 20 gram sample from tea club :(.

Had this tea on the week-end. I had already tried Qilan Trees and found I enjoyed it but not keen on the roasted flavour. I knew this one would have an even stronger roasted flavour so wasn’t sure if I would like it.

It turns out I was surprised. Yes, more roasted but it seems the fruity and mineral notes came through more. I don’t know, I rather liked this one but it made me awfully hungry. Maybe it’s the roasted flavour that makes me hungry. Got a few infusions from it.

This was such a pleasant roast. The dry leaf consists of long crimson and dark brown leaves. The give off a very fragrant char and fruit aroma. I placed a generous amount into my warmed gaiwan and gave them a shake. The aroma was even deeper than the Tree counterpart. The scent was like raisins and roasted peaches. It was a deep ember like scent. I washed the leaves once and prepared for brewing. The taste is wonderful. The liquor is a lot lighter than I anticipated. This roast tea is not overwhelming charred. There is still a lot of green and sweet character still in this brew. The flavor is not as complex as Qilan Trees, but it is still very potent. The aroma began as a roast and ash, but it formed into plums and sweet nickel. The tea has a very rocky flavor. The taste is full of minerals and covered with sweet peach. The best part of this tea is simply the aroma. My tea room has a lingering rocky and fruit aroma that continues to stay put. I’ve even washed and put all my teaware away, and the scent still stays. Personally, the Qilan Trees is my favorite, but this is a beautifully roasted oolong that I will certainty treasure.
