This is a new style of processing Dan Cong that shares some similarity to Anxi Tie Guan Yin. The tea is picked, and before it can wilt it is fried to start kill-green process in motion, the tea is then rolled briefly by hand and then put in a special dehydrator to stop the wilting process entirely. The result is a very green and very aromatic dan cong. The tea also has a very sweet taste, with some vegetal almost Tie Guan Yin like feeling.

High quality, hand-picked Spring leaves were used!

Not the tastiest Dancong. I got the 2019 harvest of this tea from my recent YS order, and it performs poorly in most parts. Decent leaves with a bit of brokenness, with a nice but slightly weak aroma and a decent liquor. The flavour is mediocre to decent, with a nice hint of florality paired with bittersweet notes. The texture is decent, nice smooth texture with a bit of astringency and bite to it. Character is average to poor, not a lot of steep variability at play here. Finish & aftertaste is quite decent, nice floral punch in the aftertaste when brewed stronger with a nice juicy finish as well. Cha-qi is almost non-existent and steep longevity is mediocre to average, topping out at steep 8-10.

Enjoyed the Spring 2019 version of this tea today. Brewed in my green gaiwan, 90C with a quick rinse and then 30 sec.

I got about 5 infusions off this tea. The dry leaf looked very green and smelled wonderfully floral. Brewed up it was floral with a slightly creamy mouth feel, cane sugar sweet & there was a faint green/vegetal flavour to it. It had similarities to a tie guan yin. I enjoyed the earlier steeps instead of later because the floral aroma and taste was more pronounced then.

Haven’t had this one but the greener dan congs all seem to have a TGY-esque flavor. I think Taiwanese oolongs have a more refined flavor even though many of the recent ones have been less than impressive

Yes, I really love Taiwanese oolongs the most but thought I would give this one a try based on the taste profile. I’m glad I did. I normally hate cheap TGY’s but the good quality ones are very nice. This one had similarities closer to a good quality TGY

Additional notes (2 years later ^^):
The profile is still similar to good Anxi Tie Guan Yin. The dry leaves are green with a TGY light aroma, floral aroma. I’ve learned that I’m not really a Dan Cong fan but I do enjoy this version. I got a very light nutty taste, as well as some light citrus and fruit notes, and green vibes. Spinach, asparagus… Vegetal. So it’s very complex with the fruit and vegetal notes and a finish of light sweetness. It has a very slick feel to it, buttery.

I put in 8g in a 160 ml gaiwan, rinse, 10s, 20s, 30s, 1 min. and a few more.

I made it through my surgery on the 5th and I was ok’d for Barley tea (been drinking a lot of TeaVivre barley tea yum) but I thought I’d have something a little different today. My esophagitis/Gerd seems fixed but I won’t push it quite yet. :P

Super green oolongs always seemed more like green teas without edge unless done right, like, say, a good Da Yu Ling or Li Shan oolong, but this one sounds interesting. I’ll have to try it!
