This is my first time trying this company. This tea was fairly highly rated, so I thought I would give it a try. I am not disappointed.
I love earl greys, and especially cream earl greys.
This is no exception. Wonderfully smooth, creamy.

It is also great iced.

Yum! Goood morning steepsters! Steepster-ers? Need caffeine. _ My fluffiest cat woke me up REPEATEDLY this morning, while my oldest/most stubborn cat repeatedly sandwiched my legs in every time I moved. The thing that actually got me out of bed was wondering where smallest cat was? …it was too quiet. Well not QUIET because fluffiest cat. She is the most mournful.

…this has been your morning cat report.

This tea is kinda zingy behind the cream! I like it a lot.

Haha, cute!

TeaLady441

I just realised I haven’t had this one before! I guess I confused it with Murchie’s EGC. Maybe I’ll have to put in a Zen Tea order after all…. /0\

But seriously – the sample sizes are SO CHEAP.

Ozli

Not cute, Kittenna!! :P OK, yeah, totally cute, the jerks. :D

LOL, I’m already making notes toward my next Zen order… ;)

Kittenna

LOL not only is the scenario cute, but your wording, etc. made me laugh immensely. Fluffiest cat=most mournful. Hahahaha. I feel like I could have written something similar about my two kitties when they were still around.

Much thanks to OMGsrsly again for sending me the last of her sample of this tea as well. I wanted to try it because a lot of people love this one as their perfect EGC, so I had to see what the fuss was about!

I have to say, this comes across as a fairly standard EGC to me. Not only that, there is an underlying bitterness that reads as citrus-pith bitterness, not black tea bitterness. Maybe I accidentally overleafed without realizing it? Yeah, the cream is nice, but not extraordinary. The black base is hardly noticeable. I’m glad I got to taste it, but it won’t be making a home in my cupboard any time soon. :)

This is an absolutely fabulous earl grey! I am upping my rating. Also, see my previous tasting note about it… I will be definitely re-stocking this after I’m done with my sample.

By the way, Zen Tea’s samples have really decent sizes. Especially if you consider for how cheap they come.

Also, thank you Steepster guys, now every time I see “bergamot” in a description of tea, I always read it “blergamot”.

Sil

HAHAHAHA sorry Kat. I can’t help myself :)

The altered version seems to slide off the tongue much better.

LOL, I like that!

Tea #44 from the Here’s Hoping TTB

I’m really dragging today, so I thought I would start my day off with a favorite. I absolutely love Earl Grey Cream, there is something about it that is really comforting to me. It’s what I turn to when the days are rainy and cold, or when I’ve had a bad day (in this case a several bad days.) I’m excited to try one from a company I haven’t ordered from yet.

The dry leaf of this tea smells pleasantly of vanilla, as tired as I am today I need a little pick-me-up, so I decided to stand there sniffing for a little while, just enjoying the scent. I love the way vanilla smells, it always manages to bring a smile to my face. I was really impressed with this tea once it steeped up, the balance between the bergamot and vanilla is perfect. It’s almost like someone blended up this tea with my tastes in mind. I love a strong Earl Grey and this one had nice brisk notes from the bergamot which were slightly tempered by the sweetness from the vanilla. This tea may have just become my new favorite earl grey cream, I’ll definitely have to place an order with Zen Tea as soon as I have some extra space for more tea.

I’m sorry you’ve had a rough past few days, and I hope things begin to look up soon. I can relate to perking up at the smell of vanilla; I love the ability of scents to affect our moods like that.

This tea smells perfect dry—lusciously creamy earl grey without the harsh vanilla extract burn note some EGCs have. Just fresh, heady vanilla, flowers, and black tea. Brewed it just smells richer than many EGCs too. The flavor is strong but not too overwhelming, and with milk it’s so rich and creamy both texture and flavor-wise it’s almost shocking this is tea (looks and tastes almost like a vanilla coffee latte). Yum.

We also found this to be an excellent EGC.

It is really wonderful! I’ve been on a sort of gradual “One Earl Grey to rule them all” quest this year and your research into it has been very helpful in giving me leads. (:

Thanks for your very kind comments. However, my search to find an EG that my wife will enjoy was made possible by the prior research of many more senior Steepster members. Specifically, Ashmanra, Dinosara, JacquelineM, SimplyJenW, SororiTea Sisters: Azzarian, LiberTeas & TeaEqualsBliss, & Tea Sipper, to name just a few. Our EG search has also been greatly assisted by each of the tea suppliers who have been kind enough to provide free samples in consideration for our reviews: Arbor Teas, DAVIDsTEA, Nina’s Paris, Steep City Teas, Teajo Teas, Teas Etc., The Tea Merchant, and Zen Tea Life.

Sipdown!

I’m not a huge fan of Earl Greys, but I really enjoyed this one. The bergamot isn’t too strong but still packs a punch and the cream is very sweet and creamy. The two flavours balance each other out so nicely. I may even reorder this, once my tea box is under control.

Sample package label:
“If you are a fan of Earl Grey and had not tried this, you are in for a treat. Cream Earl Grey has a taste that is smooth with vanilla overtones which stand out above the premium bergamot flavor the signature taste of Earl Grey. Our Earl Grey mellowed with a delicious creamy taste.

Ingredients: Ceylon Tea (Nuwara Eliya, Dimbula, Uva), cornflower petals, natural flavor.
Preparation: (1 cup) {6 or 8 oz.?} 1 heaping teaspoon, 95*C (203*F), 4 min.”

6-oz water with total dissolved solids (TDS) of 19 ppm, boiled, left to stand so only steaming hot. (I do not have a quick-reading (tea) thermometer with level of precision.)
1 heaping Tevanna teaspoon:

This tea Earl Grey has a strong vanilla fragrance.

Vibrant reddish hue

First 4-min Infusion:
There is an equally balanced lemon & vanilla aroma, followed by a very smooth, medium-bodied lemon taste without tartness. The overall aroma (bergamot, vanilla, & Ceylon blend) has notes of toasted marshmallows according to my wife’s keen sense of smell. There’s just enough creamy vanilla to smooth out the oil of bergamot tartness, but not so much as to obscure the classic EG flavor. There was zero hint of bitterness or astringency from this blend of Ceylon teas. The taste of lemon lingers on the tongue.

2nd 4-min Infusion:
I was surprised that a mild lemon flavoring was still present – quite enjoyable.

Impression: An excellent, much smoother Earl Grey tea that’s very well-balanced preserving the Classic EG flavor – Quite an accomplishment!

Thanks to Zen Tea Life for providing this free sample.

Yep, I like this. I’ve seen Earl Grey Cream teas before but this is the first I’m trying. The bergamot is nicely complemented by the cream flavoring; it already tastes like it has cream and sweetener. No additives needed! Also a big plus is the fact that the flavoring in this tea isn’t giving me a headache- most do!
The only thing I would do a little differently is the brew time. I followed their directions for four minutes, and I think it’s a little long for me. But I think this is one I wouldn’t mind keeping around!
