I received a sample of this from Eva. Thank you for sharing.

I tried a sip of this and had to dump it out. It was soooo bitter for me. I then came to steepster to write a quick review and see all the positive feedback about this tea it makes me wonder if I did something wrong. I am going to have to give this one another try.

Tea #2 from the ’Here’s Hoping’ teabox.

Wow! This is spicy. Just as the spice hits the back of the throat there is a wonderful sweetness from the coconut on the tongue. I really, really like this. I added some sugar and milk to my cup. The milk smooths the spice just a bit, and the sugar highlights the coconut so that the toasted flavor comes out more.

Yum!

My professor had a Christmas party in class today and ordered cupcakes, coffee, and tea, and one of the teas in the box was this one. Sounded great! Smelled kind of charred, somehow, but not in a bad way. Probably just the spices. The tea base seemed pretty decent, and I really liked the coconut. This would have been better with some soymilk, but since none was available, I drank it plain. The pepper notes stuck out kind of jarringly, but overall it was decent. The pepper would’ve been calmed with some soymilk, so I’ll try it chai-style next time and it’ll probably be lots better.

I think that I have to mix to of your ideas and try to make coconut chai (Or thai chai) cupcakes! : ) With vanilla icing and coconut flakes on top!

Backlogging…
So, I am OBSESSED with this tea. It’s a problem. It’s what I almost always drink.
And now I find out that Zhena’s sells this tea loose leaf?
I’m gonna cry—there goes all my spending cash! ;) It’ll be worth it.
$22.80 for a half pound. I’m seriously contemplating this.

Caitlin

I love this tea too! I think the half pound is totally worth it, plus you get way more for your money with loose leaf :)

Cory Ostermann

That’s what I was thinking! I’m waiting till the first of the month, but then I will have all the coconut chai I need.

I’ve come to the sad conclusion that this tea, while decent on its own, doesn’t compare to Adagio’s Thai Chai.

TeaEqualsBliss

It’s hard to beat several of Adagio’s! But for a bagged tea Zhena’s is good in a pinch…

Thai chai… sooooo goood. I might have to break some out tonight. I haven’t had chai in what feel like forever.

I went shopping in Chapel Hill with Ashmanra and we got several new teas. This morning we are trying some of them. The first was this tea with a cherry vanilla bagel from Panera. The can of tea smells like cinnamon, ginger and coconut to me. It is a bagged tea. The brewed tea smells the same to me though not as intense. I drank the first cup black and it tasted like most chai — cinnamon, ginger & cardamom with a hint of creaminess that I took to be the coconut. I added milk and sugar in the second cup and while it added to the smoothness it really didn’t change the flavor profile for me. It is a very nice chai.

I was surprised by this one. I kept passing it up for other teas, but I decided to go for it tonight. It was pretty good. Not my favourite chai blend, but definitely nice, and…it’s a sipdown! YAY!!

I had this one with some brown sugar and milk.

Thanks for the bag, Incendiare!

I don’t like coconut in foodstuffs, generally. Something about the texture of shredded coconut on my teeth just hits me wrong. And generally the scent is overwhelming.

But I find that I actually like it in tea, strangely enough. Well, tea, and a coconut milk cooked rice that I’ve had here and there, but I digress.

Had this today iced with a packet of splenda, no milk. Got it too sweet but otherwise, pretty refreshing.

I really have to want to take a walk on the wild side to drink chai since I’m allergic to cinnamon, and I guess today was one of those days. The combination of this intrigued me so much I just had to try it. I’m not normally a huge fan of coconut, but this wasn’t bad, although a little artificial tasting. It was very spicy with just a hint of sweetness from the coconut. I think next time around I’ll sweeten this up a little bit.
