9 Tasting Notes
Trying another one of the new straight teas from DAVIDsTEA – Tung Ting Vietnam today. I also used this tea to try out my new Gung Fu teapot for the first time. So many new experiences!
After three infusions, I’m loving this tea. I was smelling the leaves after brewing and I think the best way to describe it – is just very intense oolong flavour and scent. I picked up a bit of pine on the first infusion, and a really nice sweetness on the second, but the overall experience is one of a really well flavoured oolong that doesn’t have any extraneous notes. It’s just oolong all the way.
Preparation
I picked up a sample of each of the new straight teas at DAVIDsTEA yesterday – which I think is a fantastic marketing strategy. I love being able to try a new tea in my house, where I can brew it exactly how I want to… Yep – I pulled out my thermometer for this one.
Onto the tea!
I am a big fan of white & green teas, and I know that I prefer lighter more delicately flavoured teas so I was fairly certain that I would like the White Peony tea.
And I do! It’s light, slightly floral and the corn silk notes add a really delicate texture that is very subtle but great.
Preparation
I’m not sure what to make of this tea. I think the earl grey flavour combined with the green tea flavour is just not for me. I wish it was just a straight earl grey with bergamot and orange flavours.
Aside from how the mixed green & earl grey bothers me, I felt like the bergamot overwhelmed the orange flavours.
Despite my piles of criticism, I would like to try it again with a bit of lemon to bump up the citrus flavours.
Preparation
Good lemongrass notes and with a really nice sweetness to it. It’s a tiny bit murky & the tangerine flavours are a teeny bit bitter (from the peel possibly?) – but overall a very serviceable green tea. Definitely worth trying.
