32 Tasting Notes

I’ve had a sample of this tea in my cupboard for a few months and am just getting around to trying it now…so many teas, so little time (thanks to Courtney and my first tea order from The TeaCupany).

There was a taste to this tea that I really didn’t love. I’m finding the same unlikeable flavor in a few other teas that I’ve tried over the past few months, but I can’t figure out what it is. It IS possible that the strong flavor was only there because I steeped it too long, but I’m unsure.

I’m going to try this one again at a later date to find out if it’s my poor steeping skills or if I just really don’t enjoy a particular ingredient.

Courtney

No matter how many variations of Earl Grey I tried, I could never get on board. Bergamot and I just don’t get along sadly.

KellyxLee

I wonder if that’s the taste I’m not loving. I recall drinking a few other teas that have this same ingredient. I’ll have to see if bergamot is an ingredient in these other teas.

Just when I thought I’d never get a free minute to start logging the teas I’ve sipped in the past few weeks…

I received a sample of this tea from Courtney and I knew this would be one I’d fall in love with. I really love anything cinnamon: candy, cookies, toast, but I only expected a slight cinnamon taste behind a nice green tea. WRONG! This tea tasted very much like cinnamon heart candies, which has always been a favorite candy of mine.

I couldn’t taste any amount of green tea, but since I felt like I was sipping liquid cinnamon heart candies, I’m not really complaining.

I believe this was my first introduction to Harney & Sons and it gave me a very good impression of them. I noticed some of their teas at an online book store I order from quite often, so I’m very excited to try some of their other teas.

Courtney

Yes! This one is awesome. H&S does green teas amazingly well in my opinion.

drank With Open Eyes by Butiki Teas

Another delicious Butiki tea sent to me by Courtney.

I’ve always really loved Green Tea (mind you, prior to beginning my loose leaf tea obsession, the only Green Tea I’d tried came compliments of Tetley and Tim Hortons), but this tea was a green unlike any I’d tried before.

I can’t even begin to describe what it tasted like. I couldn’t taste strawberry, ginger OR green tea personally; this tea had a taste all its own. It was the perfect tea to drink before bed.

I’ll steep a second cup in the morning and see if I can pick out hints of strawberry and ginger.

drank Cookie Dough by DAVIDsTEA

Another one from Courtney…I’ve been drinking the samples she sent me daily and somehow my tea cupboard still looks equally as full day after day. I’m not complaining in any way, but I’m worried that my teas are somehow multiplying…like that scene in Gremlins where Corey Feldman accidentally spills water on Gizmo and he multiplies into a bunch of mogwai…I don’t see how Gremlins and tea have anything to do with each other, but that’s where my brain went…

Anyway, I steeped the sample of Cookie Dough this morning. This was one of the samples I was really excited to try since I found out it was being sent to me, but due to all of the fantastic teas Courtney sent my way, I’m only now getting around to trying it…and it did not disappoint.

I have to admit, for some reason I assumed it was going to taste like chocolate chip cookie dough, as opposed to the million other types of cookie dough that are possible. And while I did find it tasted like a baked good of some sort, I don’t know if it was really all that cookie to me.

I really liked how all of the flavors blended together and that no flavor was overly powerful on its own. Unfortunately, I didn’t give this tea the time it deserved for me to smell it and try and pick out individual ingredients and flavors; I was too busy enjoying the warm deliciousness on this cold Nova Scotia day.

I’m pretty sour at DAVIDs TEA for not bringing this one back, as I understand it was a Winter Collection tea from a previous year(s). I also found out today that another favorite of mine from DAVIDs has been discontinued. Not impressed David. Not impressed.

I was also upset this one isn’t back this year :( Well, my fiance was haha!

I don’t blame him at all. I’m excited to try the winter/holiday teas from Davids…I’m hoping they’re as good as Cookie Dough was.

I received a sample of Cantaloupe & Cream from Courtney about a week or so ago and I just got around to steeping a cup of it this morning. Initially, I was looking to steep something with an unnecessary amount of caffeine due to a certain four month old who felt that 6:00 am would be the perfect time to start her Sunday. I went with Cantaloupe & Cream instead because I was lazy and this was the first tea I saw when I opened up my cupboard.

The first thing I noticed about this tea were the little yellow flowers. It’s really a very attractive dry tea.

I was a bit skeptical in regards to what a cantaloupe tea would taste like but, again, the world of tea has shocked and amazed me. This tea was unlike any other tea I had tried and the cantaloupe flavor was delightful. do; however, have to admit that I couldn’t find any cream flavor to it, although this didn’t have any effect on how much I enjoyed this tea.

I steeped a second cup with the same infuser full of tea and I found it to be a lot less flavorful as the first. Perhaps if I had steeped the second cup for a few additional minutes, it would have made a difference, but it with still delicious nonetheless.

I steep longer for my second steep, and I believe Stacy also recommends adding some sugar to this one as well, if you so feel the need :) Sometimes I add sugar, but usually I don’t. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

drank Bella Berry by Tealish
32 tasting notes

This was another sample I received from Courtney. I’m so grateful that she was nice enough to send me not one, but TWO packages of tea samples from her cupboard.

I don’t know how to describe what I was expecting from this tea, but it sure isn’t what I got! I guess I assumed it was going to be very sweet with an assortment of very strong berry flavors, which I also would have really enjoyed, but instead it had a slight berry taste and a flavor I wasn’t familiar with. At first, I thought it might be some sort of flower, so I headed over to the Tealish website to investigate. I came to find that this tea contained melon, not flowers, and I immediately realized my error. What a fantastic combination of strawberry and melon!

This is another tea I’ll have to add to my shopping list. I’m excited that Tealish is a Canadian Company and that it’s available at retailers throughout the country.

NOTE TO SELF: Try this one iced as the Tealish website suggests.

drank Toasty Almond by Tealish

I received a sample of Toasty Almond from Courtney this past week when I found an unexpected package waiting for me in my mailbox! Prior to receiving it, I don’t think I had ever heard of Tealish, so I was really excited to try some of their teas.

This tea is nearly identical to DAVIDs’ Forever Nuts. Both had that nice pink color and the same delightful aroma, smelling of baked apples and almonds. At first sip, I found Toasty Almond to have a very strong apple taste; however, I found the almond flavor in my second sip.

Although there isn’t anything that is overly different between Toasty Almond and Forever Nuts, I still prefer Forever Nuts. I find it has a slightly smoother taste over Toasty Almond and since it’s the tea that began my addiction, it will likely be preferred over any other tea I find similar to it.

This was another tea sample I’d received from Courtney last week.

Butiki Teas decided they would take three of my favorite things – pumpkin, creme brulee and tea – and combine them to make a delicious consumable.

This is a tea that would remind me of fall regardless of what time of year I drank it. The spices were perfect and not too strong like I’m finding a lot of spicy teas are.

I would definitely purchase this one again and will be purchasing some Butiki teas in the future

drank Gold Rush by DAVIDsTEA
32 tasting notes

I tried this tea about a week ago and am just getting around to logging it now. I’ll apologize in advance to the tea if I can’t correctly remember everything I liked/disliked about it. It’s another tea I’ll have to try again soon to give it a proper review.

I received a sample of this in DAVIDs Sweet Indulgence pack and was actually intending on giving it away as the look of it kind of freaked me out.

Dry, I found this tea didn’t have much smell, and I can’t recall what, if any, smell it had when steeped. I could immediately taste coconut and something unfamiliar, but it was something nice. I later went on the DAVIDs website to find out it was mulberries, something I’ve never tried before.

I found this tea to have somewhat of a thickness to it when I drank it. This didn’t bother me, but it’s something I’d never experienced a tea to do. I did enjoy my first and second cup of this tea, but I don’t have any plans to repurchase. I will; however, steep another cup or two to give it another shot and another review.

drank Pumpkin Spice by Tim Hortons
32 tasting notes

Being someone who loves anything pumpkin, I had to try this tea when it came to our local Tim Hortons last month. I’m really glad I didn’t go out of my way to grab a cup. I found this tea to taste very nutty for some reason, which I did not enjoy. The spices were much too strong, despite my steeping the bag for only a few minutes. I won’t be drinking this one again.
