Sipdown! 77/393

I don’t know how I feel about this. It reminds me a lot of Adagio/Cara McGee’s Captain Jack blend, which I really like, but I definitely prefer that to this. I don’t know if I’m biased against it because of how much I like the other one, because it’s not really all that different and yet I like Captain Jack a lot more. I’m conflicted. Both are black tea and rooibos blends, and both have almond and chocolate flavours. The only difference I can tell right off is that this one features coconut, and doesn’t have chocolate chips. In the taste, however, this one lacks depth that the Captain Jack tea has, and the flavours taste more artificial. I absolutely adore coconut in tea, and yet I don’t feel like it adds much here. It’s too astringent to drink black, and whilst milk and sugar solves this problem they also weaken the chocolate and almond flavours, which were previously quite prominent. It does bring out the coconut a little more, which is nice, but it’s still just a touch too artificial-tasting for me. Maybe I’ve been spoiled from drinking nothing but Butiki this past month? Artificial flavourings never used to bother me before…

I know all this sounds really negative, but it’s only because I can’t help but compare it to the Adagio tea. If I try not to compare the two, it’s honestly pretty nice. I’ve never had an Almond Joy, because I don’t think they’re sold here in the UK, but they sound pretty delicious and I really like the combination on flavours going on here. It’s creamy and nutty, and without the chocolate flavouring I think I’d like it a lot more. Enjoyable to sip on a quiet night time, but not quite enough to replace dessert for me.

Decent, but not a stand-out. Thank you Janelle for the sample!

I tried this from the TTB I have recently had the privilege of being a part of.

I thought this might be a nice basic black tea with some fruit flavor & with the cooler temps we’ve had off an on lately, unseasonably so, had me thinking Fall was on the way anyway… & I can associate Fall with pomegranates in the store, so why not try this?

I found this to be a basic black tea with little fruit flavor. If I didn’t know this was supposed to be pomegranate raspberry I would have called it cranberry due to the tartness I got from it. Even knowing the raspberry is supposed to be there, I couldn’t find it.

Sadly, I don’t think this one is for me. I can see how pomegranate and cranberry can have similar flavor, but I didn’t expect tart with this one.

From the HHTTB2

Meh. I get some pomegranate at the end of the sip, but I get more raspberry flavor over all. The black tea base is generic. I can’t pick up any true flavor from it although I thought I smelled something a bit bread-y. That could be wishful thinking on my part.

I’m glad I gave this one a try, but unfortunately this is one of those easily forgettable teas.

This was a sample I received thanks to BrewTEAlly Sweet

This isn’t an outstanding tea, but there’s nothing specifically negative about it. It’s lightly scented, so it was no suprise when the flavoring was light as well. The base doesn’t have a whole lot of oomph either, so I do get pomegranate (or raspberry?) flavor from it, which is good.

It’s not a bad tea, but I don’t really bave anything to rave about either here.

Thanks for a sample of this BrewTEAlly Sweet!

I’m not going to post a rating since I still have a cold, but I’m enjoying it thoroughly. I always enjoy a good jasmine :)

Drinking this before bed. Hopefully it helps me get to sleep for work in the morning at 6am:( at first it tastes like a normal chamomile then u get after notes of the peppermint on your tongue and Roobios in your throat. It’s definitely a soothing cup of tea and is already going to work and putting me to sleep:) beautiful color also, from the Roobios I presume. Goodnight fellow steepsters.

Shelly_Lorraine sent me some of this one to try! thank you! The package said to steep it for five minutes, so I did. There certainly was a strong black tea here but not much in the way of pom or raspberry flavor. It was a pretty bold blend with an odd flavor to it.. it’s tough to describe! But it has a bit of a chalky astringency. Not bad if you want a caffeine kick.

Thanks BrewTEAlly Sweet! I’ll be honest… I can’t really get any flavor out of this… Just a mild black tea with a slight aftertaste of pomegranate and raspberry. Nothing really makes it shine.

A nice base, but weak on the black currant. I got something vaguely fruity, but not necessarily currant. The base was malty, sweet, and flavorful.

EDIT: Oh! And thank you Shelley_Lorraine dor this tea! :-)

Not a bad cup. The base is uncommonly robust, but the black current flavor is weak. It has just a slight funky aftertaste.

Thanks BrewTEAlly Sweet (^.^)

My second mystery tea sample from BrewTEAlly Sweet (^.^)

This tea is kind of “blah” to me. Nothing particularly negative, but nothing to rave about either. It has very little aroma and the flavor doesn’t kick in till just before I swallow a sip. I detect more pomegranate than raspberry, which is appropriate considering its name. the tea base has a nutty aftertaste that I could do without, but it’s alright.

Backlog:

If I remember correctly, I received a bit of this tea from TeaEqualsBliss – thanks! (My apologies if I remembered incorrectly!)

I liked this tea quite a bit. Hint of smokiness, nice chocolate-y tones (although it could use more chocolate!) and the black tea has a nice, rich flavor to it. Creamy, yummy caramel tones … A really enjoyable dessert tea.

Emilie sent me some of this! Thanks so much :)

It’s creamy and subtly sweet. The Caramel/Chocolate combo is nice but not overly flavorful. It’s dreamy and comforting but doesn’t quite satisfy my massive sweet tooth today.

On a normal day this one would probably do the trick so I am keeping that in mind.

Don’t get me wrong…this IS certainly tasty!

I’m just in rare sorts after yesterday…after this week!

Second steeping and the smokiness smooths out even more and the citrus shows through more obviously. Still very dark even on second use of leaves.

Good morning Steepster! I am tasting another tea from my sampler from Emilie this morning and I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised at this one. Being more of a dessert tea fan, “smoke-flavored” tea didn’t really sound all that “ME”. But, I was a member of the “two bite” club in pre-school, so I’ll just transform that into the “two-sip” club as an adult.

Well, I’ve made it past two sips already! :) The smoke flavor isn’t as overwhelming as I was afraid it was going to be, and I think my small addition of soy milk smooths it out even more. The description also says it has “citrus-bits” which I don’t know if I would have guessed otherwise. I can tell there’s a hint of something with the smoke, but I don’t know if my mind would have gone to citrus.

Overall, not a tea I would probably BUY for myself, but I definitely will drink the rest of what I have :) Thanks Emilie!

This smells really sweet, like bubblegum, when dry. It gets a bit more minty once it’s steeped. Unfortunately, it just tasted like a weak peppermint tea. I think I’m much happier just putting my own peppermint in, so I can get it as strong or weak as I like.
Don’t let my low rating scare you off though. I like really minty teas, but if you like yours a bit more subtle, you might like this. I have some left if anybody would like to give it a try.

The sprinkles in this are cute! It has a really weak sweet smell though. I was hoping the flavor would not match the smell. At three minutes, I could taste the tea (and it was good) but I could not taste any of the other flavors at all. As it cooled, I could taste a bit more creaminess but not much. I definitely don’t get any cakeiness from it. I’ll try it a bit longer next time and see if I can find any of the flavors.
