My amazing boyfriend bought this for me as part of a Valentines gift, and I was extremely excited because it is an extremely thoughtful gift and I love the idea of blooming tea.

I’m very impressed at the quality of the green tea itself. This company sells organic whole leaf tea that is hand processed, heavy metal/pesticide tested, and has its caffeine content right on the label (19mg caffeine/1g of dry green tea)

I’m usually wary of greens because they can be grassy or astringent, but I actually thought this was a white tea when I first sipped it. It reminds me a lot of silver needle whites.

Steep one was very sweet, peachy, the tea base was lighter but very smooth. I appreciate the natural peach flavour, it is extremely accurate. It is one of the best peach flavoured teas I’ve tried to date.

Second steep more tea flavour, but it isn’t vegetal at all. Lots of tannins, but no hints of bitterness or anything unpleasant. The base is a bit sweet and a bit creamy. It goes really well with the peach flavouring.

Third steep is like the second, but the tea flavour is a little more sharp. Still no bitterness though.

This is from the recent Red Leaf Tea side by side blind taste test. If you were included but haven’t completed your survey yet stop reading now.

This was yesterday’s morning glass of milk, matcha, and Splenda. As a hot cup I noted this had a slight hay taste with a feel of cotton candy. It is mostly smooth with only a little bitter. If I remember correctly my cotton candy reference was not to sweetness but rather that bit of gritty feel you get while eating it.

So cold, with milk and sweetener. I like this one. It was my third highest rated matcha. It is also like the third most expensive. I rated both Red Leaf Tea samples higher and they were way less expensive. If the price doesn’t bother you, I thought it was a solid culinary grade mixer.

You would never know the delicious strawberry banana smoothie sitting on my desk this morning was full of incredible health benefits as imparted by matcha green tea powder! Going off the recommended dose, I started with 1/2 teaspoon as I’m caffeine sensitive and would rather try the low dose before the high dose. The scent of the matcha was vibrant and vegetal, just as it should be. The matcha powder had a soft, silky, powdery texture, and the color is jade-like green. It looks like high-quality matcha to every scale I’m familiar with. To be fair, I’ve only ever had flavored matcha before, namely from Red Leaf, but I at least know that “matcha flavor” and I can definitely sense the hint of green tea deliciousness in my smoothie. That said, it’s not a bitter or astringent taste that I’m catching. Not at all. In fact, I get only the sweet of fruit and the green tea taste I was hoping for. The matcha hasn’t taken away from the tastiness of my smoothie at all! And I was worried about that because other green tea I’ve tried has often been astringent or bitter. I don’t get that here!

I’ll have to try this matcha in other ways. I will try it as a latte to compare to my experiences with Red Leaf, for sure. But for now, I’m going to have to give this matcha my seal of approval. It’s delicious, smells wonderful, and the price is amazing for such a large pouch! Gotta say I was quite surprised to find that the pouch was so big! It certainly is a lot of matcha for the price! :)
