This was a lovely smelling and tasting tea: Very cinnamony, and definitely smelling of cinnamon bun. Very soft aroma; slightly sweet. This was a seasonal tea I’m very glad I bought.

Not a bad tea, and as a black tea it’s solid, but I didn’t detect any especially strong plummy or cinnamony aromas or flavors. It’s certainly a pretty tea – the sugar crystals do give the loose leaf tea a sparkle – but it didn’t have a strong non-standard-black-tea flavor. I would neither recommend nor not recommend it; I’m ambivalent about this tea. The creamer I added did provide a deeper flavor to the tea. Probably good for people who like flavored black teas but don’t want (or want a break from) strongly flavored black tea.

This tea has been keeping me company throughout the day today. The first steep was creamy but far too floral for my liking. The second steep is better – less floral, still creamy – with more smoothness coming out as it cools. Probably not one I’ll restock once my sample is gone, but it’s pretty tasty!

So, for anyone interested in a life update, my husband and I closed on our condo just over a week ago and we’ve been slowly moving in and getting things settled! The kitchen is about 95% done, including a tea cabinet that was the first thing to be set up. Okay, maybe my husband set up his computer first, but the tea cabinet was a close second. Priorities are priorities, right?

We had some friends over to help us paint this weekend. The previous owners were … well, they didn’t know how to house. Or clean. Or have much common sense. This week has been extremely frustrating for getting anything done because everything is filthy, nonsensical, or both. I was so happy to have people over who actually helped us make progress on settling in. We still don’t have most of our furniture here, but our office is set up and I have a desk (!!!) for the first time in years.

And now for the tea…

This is the one my friend requested when I offered to make her tea. She got the first steep and I took the second, only I massively oversteeped my cup. With a splash of flavored creamer to sweeten things up, you’d never know I oversteeped. Seriously. Whistling Kettle’s black teas tend to be very bitter to me, but this one was smooth, creamy, sweet, and absolutely lived up to its name. I’m very impressed … and very sad that I only have a sample of this … and Whistling Kettle is now several hours away from me. Booooo!

I liked this tea, but a little too astringent. I was honestly sold by the myth surrounding it for the novelty. The leaves are gorgeous, the aroma is fresh and mystical, like smelling mist on the mountains. As for taste, it really is in between being a white and green tea. The website describes it with a mild astringency, but I would say it’s one of the more dominant aspects of it. The body is a clear yellow green like glass, but the taste is a really strong, astringent green tea.

I can say it calmed me after the first cup, but after the second, I was a little spastic. Definitely worth a try for my newbie tastes, but I am not sure I’d recommend it. As for the company, they give you some pretty awesome deals and service.

IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS IS A MATCHA AND IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE WITHOUT A MATCHA WHISK. I wanted to try something different, and when I found out there was a white version of matcha, I immediately wanted to try it. I also was curious about the health benefits since there has been a little press about general white matcha’s as being high in polyphenols and a potential pre workout supplement for weight loss. As with any claim, there is a degree of truth in the antioxidant amount and the effectiveness as an appetite suppressant and stimulant. I can say that I was more focused and less fatigued during workouts that without it, placebo effect excluded.

Getting back to the actual taste, the website provides the best description of it, as something like dry moss reminiscent of an Oolong. It has a lighter, or even more earth like or dirt like taste and presence compared to the usual Green Matchas. Backing up, this is a potent tea, and I would not use more that 4 grams even for a stronger whisk. I’d advise this for someone who is more adventurous or who likes whites and oolongs-not for many people though. If you want a natural pre workout, and you have a low caffeine tolerance, than this works.

Okay, I tried this again with the recommendations that I posted on steeping like before, and it is much better. There is actually some cream to it.

Smells just like cherry tobacco which I love. Definitely strong cherry and rose profile that naturally sweeten with a barely noticed tartness. However, the flavoring by no means overpowers the seaweed green profile of the Sencha. I would highly recommend to some one who is a little bit more of a newbie or is a Green Tea lover.

I really enjoyed this tea because it is coffee. With caramel. And Jasmine. And Pu-Erh. The smelliest fermentation level of tea. Pu-Erh is a tea more for the curious, and those who want to become a little bit more worldly in teas. The first one I had was the Numi’s Chocolate Pu-Erh, which I kinda hoped to have more of a cocoa taste. Every bag was different, and inconsistently satisfied me. When I found this one, I was really happy because it combines four of my vices together. And it was satisfying. My only complaint was the unpleasant earth smell, but hey, it’s Pu-Erh.

I would recommend this only to someone who likes strong tea and black coffee-any one else would probably be repulsed. Of the many little samples I got from this company, this was the one that enjoyed the most, especially with the extra caffeine kick.

I happened to pick up a sample rooibos cube when in was in over the weekend. Today’s weather called for a large mug of tea after work and I chose this. I didn’t know what to expect from it as I’d never had it before or noticed it on the menu. To my surprise the orange flavor is nice and light and I do note hints of creme. It’s really a lovely cup on a dreary rainy day.

Orange and rooibos are a good fit, aren’t they?

I wouldn’t have thought they would be, but they so are!!

I love this tea. It feels so smooth in your mouth and not at all astringent like most black tea. I didn’t use much so the flavor wasn’t over powering but just enough- delicious. Creamy is the best way to describe it, although I know that’s not a flavor. Yum, going to re steep now

Surprisingly, tastes just like Apple Jacks breakfast cereal. Cider with a hint of oats and quite sweet. Maybe a little over sweet for me.

Wow, fennel and licorice root are really dominant here, with sweetness that must be the Tulsi. Husband over leafed it (more like double leafed it!) so all the more intense. I am guessing that fans of black licorice love this tisane— alas I really dislike it. But I am drinking for the health benefits (adaptogens!) so will pinch my nose and drink.

My apologies to the Whistling Kettle people… but this tea smells like feet, surely this can’t be news to them. In my efforts to de-stress, I am willing to try almost anything with valerian, but the locker room experience is too much. Guess I’m sticking to Mother’s Little Helper for now.

I just pulled a bunch of neglected offerings out of my tea chest for my first sip down challenge. And actually drank a few of them today… but I am a little hungry and craved Banana Dulce, which is definitely not a sip down!

I really like this herbal Rooibos blend. I am always on the lookout for good caffeine- free choices, and with a little cream this is as comforting and flavorful as warm banana bread. Chamomile doesn’t dominate unless oversteeped.

maybe i need to steep for 4 mins instead of 6 because all i could taste was chamomile last night!

I have so little of this left. :( The tea they added to replace it…chocolate salted caramel is no bueno. Not at all! I’ve had this tea close to three years now and I probably should toss it, but I refuse. Plus it still tastes amazing. The salt is there in little hints, but the caramel shines through and is simply delicious! I will be very sad when this is gone as I cannot find a substitute for it!

First off…this is the LAST name change I promise. I’m trying to sort out all my online “stuff” so to speak. Sure I could add it all to the galinthegreyhat blog, BUT it always worked better when I kept tea blogging/tweeting to one place and the personal blogging/tweeting in another. Now on to the tea!

For some reason this morning I was feeling like a two cup pot of tea was in order. Well, I was actually feeling a WHOLE pot was in order….but I didn’t check the kettle water level (oopsie). I mixed this tea with another tea from the same company called Nut Crunch Honeybush. I’ve had the Salted Caramel for a very LONG time. The reason being once it’s gone it’s GONE! TWK can’t get it anymore and I can’t find a good place to buy it. (HELP)

Anyway. It still smells amazing (yay). Like those yummy salted caramel truffles at Lindt! While the honeybush smells more like a pastry and on the sweet side. Thankfully after my water mishap this tea turned out perfect. A nice balance of caramel and pastry-ish goodness. Trick will be not to make more for quite a while…I have less than a half a bag left!

1tsp of each tea with boiling water steeped for 5 minutes.

It was FINALLY cool enough here to make up a hot cup of tea. And since I’m only allowed 200mg of caffeine a day (isn’t pregnancy grand) I thought I’d make a cup of this one. It does in fact taste like a cinnamon roll complete with gooey frosting, but that migh just be my own wishful thinking. Either way it is a yummy treat tea to kick off my day in the best possible way. The cinnamon give just enough bite to wake me up and get me moving.

So I kept seeing this pop up as a “tea of the day” on their facebook page. Today, thanks to lunch with my Mother-In-Law I finally got to try it. It smells just like hot cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven! Once I added a little cream and rock sugar to the mix it tasted a little like there was the added bliss of frosting too! Sadly it’s one of their season teas that the owner is playing with at the moment. BUT you can buy it in the shop, not online.
