Camellia Sinensis (or any other Canadian company) black tea suggestions

Hello everyone!

Due to the Canadian dollar being so low, I’ve been looking around for a Canadian company to order black tea from.

I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions on a malty cocoa black tea from Camellia Sinensis (unflavoured of course)?

Or any other Canadian company which has an outstanding black with the characteristics mentioned.

Thanks everyone!

I am a fan of Capital Tea’s blacks. Have a look at their China blacks:

I would definitely second sherubtse ‘s recommendation. You may also want to look at the Ceylon’s from Capital Tea. The Lumbini Estate and Golden Garden ones had nice chocolate notes.

One other option you might want to consider are the Zhenghe gongfu Jinping village from Tao Tea Leaf.

Tao Tea Leaf and The Chinese Tea shop will send out samples for review so you may want to take advantage of that to see if their are any Teas that meet your needs there.

The world of Tea in Ottawa may be another option as well. Shipping is only 6.99 across Canada.

Yes, Joel from Capital Tea has a very good selection of Ceylons. I have a few in the ol’ tea chest now:

The Inverness OP is especially interesting, I think.

Camellia Sinensis seems to be low stock on their black teas, the Xiao Zhong meets the profit you’re looking for but it out at the moment. I order from Camellia Sinensis on occasion.

Yunnan Sourcing’s black teas aren’t terribly expensive if you order through their US site. Any of the Yunnan leaf teas tend to be more malty/chocolate in flavor.

I recommend Teavivre, just change the currency from USD to CAD. Free shipping over $30 (if I remember right) which is an easy target. I love Chinese blacks and regularly stock the following from them:
-Golden Monkey
-Black Dragon Pearls
-Bailing Gongfu
-Yun Nan Dian Hong (their cheapest grade is the one I like best!)

Its not a black tea, but I’d recommend their Gaba Oolong. Its got a great cacao like taste, with a rum like sweetness.

If you’re looking for something a bit more conventional, I’d also suggest taking a look at Murchie’s: http://www.murchies.com/store/

They offer a lot of bagged blends, but it does seem to be blended in-house. I really want to try their Editor’s Blend at some point (because editing is what I do for a living).

Also, if you’re considering buying some pu’erh in the future, Wymm Tea is a Canadian pu’erh vendor. I sampled some of their teas and my (very positive) reviews will be up soon: http://www.wymmtea.com

So I went for Capital Teas and got four to try:
Keemun Mao Feng – Xianyu Shan
Cangyuan Golden Mao Feng – Yunnan
Lumbini Estate OP1
Golden Garden Estate Ceylon OP

They all had chocolate notes in their description and two were recommended by yyz. I’m pretty excited to try them all out!

As per the other suggestions – Teavivre is pretty good, but I wasn’t finding the type of cocoa flavour I was looking for from their teas. I would say the Bailin was the closest, but still not on the mark.
I was looking at Tao Tea Leaf, but I went with Capital as they had more blacks to sample that fit the description I was looking for.
The yunnan from Davids Tea is alright, but nothing special in my opinion.

I’m definitely going to check out Wymm Tea on my next round for ordering tea! I really do enjoy pu’erh.

Thank you all again for your input! It was greatly appreciated!
