Matcha shaken in a bottle. Best type?

Hello all!

Sitting by the window sick with a cold and thinking about matcha. What do you guys find are the best brands of matcha for shaking into bottles?

I work on a plane and dislike using the hot water so I always shake my matcha when im working.

I would sieve your matcha ahead of time with a fine sieve more than anything else. Davids Tea makes a matcha shaker bottle. Any stone ground matcha should be fine. The stone grinds the matcha down to the 10 (?) micron level let’s say. So the particles are pretty small.

The one thing I would be careful with, with respect to those bottles is the pressure valve. I don’t carry around glass bottles either, because they can break and be dangerous. (750 mL of Pop were notorious for this).

If you weren’t in a plane, a simple hand held, battery operated stirring device would be great. They sell for $10 here.

Also, they make individual serving matcha packs thst you just tear open.

You could try this too. Mix your matcha ahead of time in the bottle as a thick koicha, and then pour water over it later and shake. Might work.

Hey you Mr Quackers. You left a really inappropriate reply on my comment in this thread about how I should know that people use stuff owls to look up gals’ skirts. Then it got deleted.

Sure, go delete it, but the internet doesn’t forget ya noob. You still wrote it.

This place is about tea. Stay on topic and don’t be so fing creepy.

Yah, it was all over the news yesterday about some guy using a stuffed owl to take illegal pictures. Just saw your stuffed owl at the same time. That owl is kind of unusual. Probably better to let you know than have someone think that you’re carrying around one of those. No worries.

Alright then, you brought it again to have the last say. As I just said, this is highly inappropriate and offtopic to bring up.

Your comments is just as non nonsensical as us replying that you personally should watch out as there was a guy awhile back that poisoned 70 people via tea. You know, make sure others know those tea additions are just koolaid and buckets of sugar and nothing else. No worries.

I also recently saw a video where an owl flew into a guy’s home and he had to very carefully get it out with a broom.

Wait.. what were we talking about again?

I got the DavidsTea matcha shaker and it does hot matcha good, but is a jerk to clean http://oolongowl.com/davidstea-matcha-maker-travel-tea-tumbler-review/ I don’t think it’d be a good match using it throughout the day, it’ll get really gunky.

But for cold matcha you can get away with a mason jar or really anything. Blender bottle (used for protein shakes) works exceptionally well too.

Best type of matcha? It kinda doesn’t matter but also depends on your tastes. If you are going cold it masks most bad matchas bitterness. You can cheap out and go culinary if you wish. Or just go something nice, it’ll taste good (though can argue it’ll be wasted)

I’ve reviewed an ungodly amount of matcha http://oolongowl.com/tag/matcha/ some quick favs is Zendori, DoMatcha, Aiya.

I drink a lot of my matcha cold and shaken up. Anything will work – even a water bottle. What worked well for me in the past is one of those plastic cups with a removable straw. Put the matcha in, take the straw out and put the lid on, put a thumb over the hole so it doesn’t spray everywhere and shake!

I find red leaf and their flavored matcha is great for cold matcha.

I’ll have to try out more of red leaf cold then. The last few random brands I’ve tried seem to get clumpy when I put them in the bottle

Well as others have said sieving it will get rid of clumps. Although I’ll admit I’m lazy and don’t do that.

I also try and use less matcha. That seems to help with clumps. I recently got these “Davids Tea matcha packets” and I use half of one for a water bottle. Remember tea won’t dissolve as easily in cold water either.

Here’s a couple tealogs I did on how I make my matcha. I REALLY like KaiMatcha but I don’t think you can get it anymore. RedLeaf is at least worth a try because they have a really good reviewer program where if you buy a tea, write a review, and then use social media you can get credit towards another tea purchase. That’s how I built up my collection:

I drink matcha cold shaken every morning. I agree with sieving it first, just to remove clumps. That will help so that you don’t have to shake it for so long to get the clumps to dissolve.

Regarding a grade, it all depends what you want. Like hot matcha, the higher the grade the better it will taste. Its the same for cold shaken. But I have found with cold shaken there is a bit more “room” for the taste factor. I generally just chug it down, I don’t sit there and savour the taste. So I use a house matcha, which is like a cooking grade matcha. It is cheaper, but it still tastes ok cold. It tastes ok hot but it is more granular when you make it hot. Hope that makes sense.

You don’t need a fancy bottle. Just use a regular water bottle with a tight lid. Experiment and see what matcha you like best.
