Butiki Teas-Sales (Ends Nov 15th): Champagne & Rose Cream, Sourenee, Coconut Cream Pie, Bancha!
Yay I’m not the only one hiding orders!
I haven’t even tried all of the teas from my last Butiki order, but it looks like I’ll be buying more. That Killers Vanilla looks amazing.
I think The Killers Vanilla is a pretty interesting combo. It definitely has a calming feel even though it gives an alerting feeling.
If killers is calming and alerting, then thats going to be a work favorite.
As for hiding my orders, its more like…finding ways to not let it show how much I have LOL. I have alotted space, so if I go over it I get that ‘look’. He can’t really complain to much, he’s got a cellar and a fridge full of high end beers. At least mine takes up a couple feet of space.
Ah. Mine doesn’t have an equally (or greater) hoardable hobby, so I get the look when packages arrive multiple days in a row… last Butiki order came to work and I’ve been sneaking it into the cabinet…
On a far more important note, your house sounds like an awesome place to be!
thankfully my other half doesn’t complain at all about the orders. He knows once it gets unmanageable, i’ll do something to fix it. Funnily enough you wouldn’t believe coming in to my house that there are 300 teas sitting around, somehow i’ve managed to tuck it all away in a manner that keeps it from looking insane :)
I try to keep everything jammed as neatly as possible in my cupboard… thing is, over the last 2 months I went from having one small shelf in the pantry cupboard (small) and a few (like, 10 or so) pretty tins on display hanging on a cute wall shelf to taking over the whole bottom shelf of a large double kitchen cabinet, plus I made myself a little tea station in the corner of our kitchen peninsula which includes a little tray with my painted tea bag storage box, a cup full of my tea utensils, my tea timer, and my brewing baskets… plus behind that a big basket holding all of the samples i’ve received in swaps and want to drink soon.
I guess i tend to be a person who has a lot of stuff in general (like, i don’t have a few necklaces, i have “47” necklaces, a whole room full of craft supplies that i keep “just in case”, etc) so to him tea is just another thing to hoard.
But i don’t see it that way!
Problem with me is when something goes on sale, or when a new limited edition tea comes out that I think i’d like I have a hard time saying “oh i can’t afford that right now” or “it can wait”…. there’s always a sense of urgency.
we’re trying to pay off our wedding and other stuff too so when he looks at my tea cupboard/counter/shelf/basket all he sees is dollar signs.
Whenever a swap comes in i’m like “it was a swap which means i got rid of some in order to get this!” or when i get samples (like my big teavivre bag) “don’t worry, it was free samples, cost me nothing!” The other day my matcha order came in from Red Leaf and I had to go pick the b ox up at the PO and I was all like “Well it’s MATCHA, it’s not like regular tea, it’s SPECIAL tea!”
Then he was all “well considering how much tea you have I hope it’s all SPECIAL!”
Can’t win!
And there’s not much he has that really compares.
But i told him, LISTEN, i’m never going to stop loving tea.
I’m going to list some stuff in the swap thread soon because there’s no point in keeping anything I don’t really really like.
Sil I’m going to be sure to tell him there are people with way more tea than me! haha.
Though you must count all your little swap samples in that 300?
Unless something new and amazing gets released at Della Terra or Davidstea I think I will not buy tea for the whole month of May to make up for all the tea I bought this month.
my cupboard is everything. if it’s 1 cup, 2 cups or 30 it goes in my cupboard so i truly have a handle on how many teas i have and what i have. Also helps keep me organized. (as for people with more tea than you…kittenna has over 700 lol)
I tried to not order tea for the month of march, and was mostly successful – swaps helped. Instead of spending money to get noew teas, i simply swapped with people so it helped with the MUST HAVE NEW TEA feeling and helped with tea reduction.
Of course now I just want my butiki order to get here so that I can try all of stacy’s new teas again Thankfully she didn’t put anything up for sale this time that i need to have as it’s either already in my cupboard or i JUST finished it so i can wait a bit haha
Whatshesaid – that’s quite ambitious. May I suggest stocking up before May starts? Maybe preorder a first flush so it comes during May but you technically ordered it in April?
Sil – I thought you just sipped down to under 200. Are you already back up that high?
I need to make a spreadsheet, maybe this weekend :)
Plus doing that will help me decide what I can safely get rid of!
(700- whoaaaa)
haha kaylee – sadly (or not) my swap from terriharplady arrived and between the two of us we just sort of got carried away. She added 71 teas to my cupboard, then my swap from mercuryhime arrived and yesterday my order from puraoma arrived, though i haven’t picked it upt yet so that will add about 30 teas to my cupboard. I THINK? i’m still under 300 but barely lol
Haha Sil, meanwhile I am back to under 190! I want to see how low I can go before the beginning of May because I want to make a Verdant order for my birthday around then.
I just had to catch up to you! lol i did…for like a day haha I think i just like new teas too much to stop ordering even though i try. I have a bunch of teas i need to swap though, so maybe i can try another month of not ordering and just focus on swaps. mmmmaaaaaybe…
Kaylee, that’s not a bad idea, I plan to order more matcha before the end of the month so it should arrive conveniently in May ;)
How in the world are you storing all of these? I haven’t got enough tins for all of my tea and the cupboard just barely avoids spilling tea packages all over the counter every time I open it…
lol my tea pretty much hangs out in our bookcase (expedit from ikea). the samples are in a cardboard box that i cut down, just to keep them in one spot and manageable. I don’t have a lot of tea tins because most of the companies i order from have resealable bags, so i don’t feel the need to transfer them to tins. the books case is nice and deep so i can get them in. I also don’t often order more than 1oz so the bags aren’t huge. :) also lets me cycle through teas more often. I’m sure at some point, once i land on some teas that will forevermore be ordered, I may splurge on some tins for those ones, but at the end of the day i’ve also been REALLY picky about the look/feel of tins. :) We also don’t live in a house yet, so i haven’t got a permanent kitchen type set up.
This week we have been quite busy prepping new teas for our website and yesterday we added quite a bit of teas. Here are our new offerings:
Giddapahar Darjeeling Extra Special (Harvested this month)-Our Giddapahar Darjeeling Extra Special originates from the family owned Giddapahar Tea Estate near Kurseong (Kurseong translates to Land of the White Orchids) in the Darjeeling District of West Bengal, India. The Giddapahar Tea Estate is also known as Eagles Cliff and is situated on a mountain at an elevation of 4,800 feet. This tea utilizes Chinese tea bushes and is graded SFTGFOP1 (Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe First Flush). Sweet almond, juicy peach, and blackberry notes become immediately noticeable. Hay and jasmine notes follow with woody notes and a hint of lemon. This tea is particularly refreshing, sweet, and earthy with a touch of astringency. Please note that our recommended brewing instructions may be a little too heavy for some, so we recommend experimenting with the brewing parameters. http://www.butikiteas.com/Black.html
Thurbo Darjeeling (Harvested this month)-Our Thurbo Darjeeling originates from the Thurbo Darjeeling Tea Estate located in West Bengal in the Darjeeling District in India. The name “Thurbo” comes from the word “Tombu” which means camp. The Thurbo estate was used by the British to set up camp and invade Nepal. This estate utilizes a Chinese varietal and is situated at a 5,500 feet altitude. Our Thurbo Darjeeling is graded SFTGFOP1 (Special Finest Tippy Golden Flower Orange Pekoe-First Flush) and has notes of grass, hay, and grilled asparagus. Juicy berry, bergamot, jasmine, and spice notes can also be detected as well as some woody notes. http://www.butikiteas.com/Black.html
Organic Decaf Korakundah-Originating from the Korakundah Estate in Nilgiri, India, this black tea is grown at an elevation of 8,000 feet. The Korakundah Estate is biodynamic, pesticide free, and socially responsible. Organic Decaf Korakundah is an FOP (Flowery Orange Pekoe) grade. This tea is decaffeinated at the estate through an all-natural water decaffeination process. Pure well water is utilized to remove 99% of the caffeine content. Organic Decaf Korakundah has rich barley and citrus notes and a sweet finish. This pleasantly malty tea has a weighty mouth feel yet is mellow and smooth. http://www.butikiteas.com/Black.html
So Long, and Thanks for All the Licorice-One of our customers, Sasha, challenged us to create a unique licorice masala chai custom blend. We ended up loving her blend so much, that we decided to offer it on our website. The name of this tea is a reference to one of the owner’s favorite authors, Douglas Adams. This soothing tea features licorice; however, the spice notes are also present and linger long after the sip and meld with the licorice notes. With each sip, the licorice and spice notes seem to become stronger yet they are not overly aggressive. While this tea is fantastic plain, this blend shines with a little rice milk and sugar. http://www.butikiteas.com/Black.html
Castleton Moonlight Darjeeling-Our Castleton Moonlight Darjeeling originates from the Castleton Tea Estate in India. Located in Kurseong (Kurseong translates to Land of the White Orchids), the Castleton Tea Estate dates back to 1885 and is named after a local structure that looks like a castle. This tea is a Second Flush Darjeeling that utilizes Chinese tea bushes. Our Castleton Moonlight Darjeeling is an oolong tea with AA graded leaves and is grown at an altitude of between 4,300 feet and 6,500 feet. Rich almond, pine nut, honeysuckle, and melon notes can be detected. This lovely tea finishes with hay and floral notes. http://www.butikiteas.com/Oolong.html
Organic Honeybush-Organic Honeybush originates from South Africa. Honeybush is related to rooibos but tends to be a bit sweeter. The honeybush plant has bright yellow flowers with a scent of honey. This caffeine-free tisane is sweet and woody with a slight hint of smokiness. Notes of honey, berries, and citrus can be detected. http://www.butikiteas.com/Rooibos.html
Darjeeling Delight Sampler-Our Darjeeling Delight sampler includes 4 Darjeelings, each from a different estate. This sampler includes 1 ounce of the following Darjeelings: Giddapahar Darjeeling Extra Special (black tea, SFTGFOP-1), Glenburn Estate Darjeeling (black tea, FTGFOP-1), Thurbo Darjeeling (black tea, SFTGFOP-1), and Castleton Moonlight Darjeeling (oolong, AA 2nd Flush). SFTGFOP-1 stands for Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe-First Flush and is a grading designation. http://www.butikiteas.com/Samplers.html

Sorry for all the updates this weekend. This should be it for a while.
NEW SALE ALERT: Cast Iron Teapots & Cups are now on SALE at our cost. We are offering all of our cast iron teawares for what we paid for them. We are reducing inventory of certain teawares in order to take our teawares in a different direction. Check it out: http://www.butikiteas.com/On%20Sale.html
By the way, the Elephant Cast Iron is way cuter than the picture. The flash really washed it out.
Once our inventory is pretty low, we will be picking up some pieces from local artists.
We did a blog on the story behind our Foxy Roxy’s Banana Walnut Treat! It includes an interview with Foxy Roxy (a fellow Steepster member), tons of gratuitous tea pics & lots of cute animal pics. Check it out: http://butikiteas.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-story-behind-foxy-roxys-banana.html
OMG! Stacy, I can’t believe you posted ALL the pictures, I’m not worthy of so much space on your blog, lol!
I told Happy he’s officialy a BUTIKI cat now, and he’s SUPER happy :-)
Just wanted to give a heads up that in a few hours we will be changing our sales. Last chance at:
26% off The Killer’s Vanilla
28% off Mi Xian Black
21% off Pistachio Ice Cream
New Sales!!! http://www.butikiteas.com/On%20Sale.html. Sale ends July 6th!
1991 Da Ye Aged Oolong-21% Off-Our 1991 Da Ye Aged Oolong is a 22 year old spring harvested tea from Nantou, Taiwan. This rare tea is oxidized between 20-30% and charcoal roasted. Da Ye Oolong is uncommon today since this tea has a lower production volume. Our 1991 Da Ye Aged Oolong is sweeter and creamier than our 2003 Reserve Four Season Oolong. Notes of roasted chestnut, bark, fresh butter, honey suckle, and cinnamon can be detected. Due to the age of this tea, some mineral notes may also be detected. This tea has a silky mouth feel and is sweet and buttery.
Caramel Vanilla Assam-24% Off-Caramel Vanilla Assam pairs our Premium Taiwanese Assam with rich caramel and soft vanilla. The caramel and vanilla notes meld with the tea and almost taste as though they are naturally part of the Assam. Cacao, raisin, and citrus notes can also be detected in this smooth and malty tea. Add a little sugar for a decadent caramel vanilla dessert.
Peppermint Patty-30% Off-What better way to wind down the day than with chocolate and mint? Our Peppermint Patty pairs organic marshmallow leaf, a naturally sweet caffeine-free herb, with sweet organic peppermint, and mellow milk chocolate. This light and refreshing herbal works well as an after dinner treat. With each sip, the flavor grows stronger and lingers longer. Add a little sugar to intensify the chocolate flavor. Please research all precautions before consuming any herbal tisane.
Sencha Superior-30% Off-This superior sencha originates from Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan and is a light-steamed sencha that has a savory flavor and semi-brisk finish that’s almost sweet.
New Teas
Peach HoppiTea-Our Peach HoppiTea is a variation of a custom blend. This blend pairs our Nepalese Organic Guranse black tea base with Cascade Hops and peaches. The black tea base provides an almost sparkling quality. Cascade hops adds a touch of bitterness, somewhat like grapefruit, and is unmistakably hoppy. The peaches add a hint of sweetness that contrasts the bitterness well. The combination of these three ingredients creates a truly unique tea. We recommend allowing this tea to cool to a warm temperature for a more beer-like flavor. For a sweeter flavor, sugar may be added but will reduce the intensity of the hops. http://www.butikiteas.com/Black.html
Irish Breakfast-Our Irish Breakfast combines our Khongea Golden Tippy Assam and Hattialli Golden Lion Assam with our Organic Ceylon. This strong malty breakfast tea has chocolate, raisin, oak, tobacco, and bready notes with a citrus finish. Irish Breakfast is smooth and sweet with a light astringent finish. http://www.butikiteas.com/Black.html

Awwww! You know I was holding on to my order for the Oriental Beauty, don’t you? Now you’ve made it totally IMPOSSIBLE to resist! And what’s up with all the new teas? Girl, you’ve been working really hard! Expect a new order by the end of this day :-)
Everyting is great on custom page, my babies look so good! I also love reading about the others, the interviews are an awesome idea!
Gah….well I guess the sale is up until July….so I can still try and stick to my “no purchases until July” especially if new teas are coming….
Ooh, super excited about some of these sale teas! :) I’ll be sure to grab some up in July :D (along with some of the upcoming teas that’ll hopefully be out by then)
I am contemplating splitting an order with a coworker for free shipping – there are already $50 worth of teas that I am interested in. Let’s see how long I resist. :)
TheTeaFairy-I know, I know, I tell myself no adding more teas but I just can’t resist. We do have that Oriental Beauty in stock and it is ready to go. Feel free to contact me if you would like to order it before it hits the website. I’m hoping to get some new teas up next week if the weather permits (for photos). I love this Oriental Beauty. It’s a premium one so it’s on the pricey side but it reminds me of funnel cake. Mmmmm. Glad you like the custom page! Your babies are so cute, even when they are hoarding tea!
Sil-Just 23 more days to go!
Chizakura-Glad to hear that you are excited about the sales! This is the first time that any of those 4 are on sale (I’m pretty sure).
Uniquity-Good luck coercing your co-worker to split the order. :)
Oh nooo! Stacy, bad timing, I clicked «order now» seconds before I got your update, no oriental beauty:-(
Just a little heads up that tomorrow we are having a 1 day only super sale on the level of Black Friday deals and will have some contests as well.
:D Thank you!
Will the ones that are currently on sale still be on sale? Or is it all brand new deals?
Or – wait until tomorrow to see? : P
Cavocorax-The teas on sale now will be off sale tomorrow, since it is an overall sale on all teas.
Sweeeeeeet! I’ve written a list of teas I wanna get. I will be ready for tomorrow!
Thanks. :) That makes sense!
Also have a great birthday tomorrow. Sounds like a lot of great things planned. Aerial circus? Wow.
Awkward Soul-Awesome! :)
Cavocorax-Thank you! :) Yep, there are cheap introductory lessons for trapeze, rope, and ribbon lesson that me, my hubby, and a few friends will be taking. I’m super curious about it. I always like to try something new and interesting around my birthday.
I think it’s great you try something new and interesting for your birthday, that sounds like so much fun! Happy Birthday :)
… And as of today I told myself I’m cutting back on purchases a bit more. As of the day after tomorrow, I’ll start cutting back in that case. XD
adagio breeze-yes, but not immediately after the one-day sale. We will probably have new sales up late next week. You are certainly welcome to make sale recommendations. :)
Stacy – pineapple oolong! Pineapple oolong! Pick that one! A few others I’d love to see too but that’s my current vote heh
Sil-I think we could do either the Pineapple Oolong or the Watermelon Xylophone. :)
If no one else ends up having suggestions, I’ve got plenty LOL so looking forward to being able to order big when MY tea gets here… cough
Watermelon Xylophone, please :)
I’d also be interested in Foxy Roxy’s banana walnut treat, sparrow tongue, Castleton Darjeeling oolong, and the wild Huangshan Mao Feng. Among others :P
Hmm, a tea from my birth year (1991) and my birthday is coming up soon… Guess that’s one way to justify my purchase
Thanks! My birthday is tomorrow, so I will be treating myself to a massage but since I am a Leo (that’s my excuse at least) I celebrate birthday week and also have a number of dinners, a party, massage, aerial circus lesson planned.
