Adagio
So my hubby is in Chicago and will be able to pick up some teas from Adagio (freaking shipping to Canada is 23$ for anything under 1 lbs!) Can you all tell me what you like and don’t like from them? I am not an oolong fan, i love black teas (flavoured ones too) nothing fruity etc. What would you all suggest?!
Why is shipping to Canada so high? When I ship it’s cheap. You should have us ship to you.
My favorites from Adagio are -
Golden Spring
Yunnan Jig
Fujian Baroque
Coconut Pouchong
Honeybush Hazelnut
Cream (black)
I only ordered from Adagio once but I think I got the dragon sampler, of which the Formosa Bai Hao was most memorable, and the Dewy Cherry was nice for a fruit tea.
Yunnan noir is great.
Also, I’m a big fan of samplers. I love exposure to a lot of tea even if you don’t get a ton of something.
Yunnan noir, black dragon pearls, raja sampler, formosa pouchong, jade oolong, dancong aria. Their gunpowder and dragonwell are solid also, but none of the other greens impressed me (I think some were old). The Thai chai is excellent. And their chamomile is good if you want an herbal.
I live outside Chicago. Is there a brick and mortar Adagio in Chicago or someplace that sells thier teas?
They have a State Street location in the city. Then in the burbs they have Skokie & Naperville.
For the record, the Adagio location in downtown Chicago closed permanently in January 2021, I presume a pandemic loss.

As of June 2025, locations in Skokie and Naperville are operational. I’m sad because I had visited the State St. location many yrs ago, and suddenly today wanted to go again. Guess it’ll have to wait for my next trip to N’ville when I visit Penzey’s, around the corner!
Their Golden Yunnan is fantastic – dark and malty and a little bit peppery. And if you like Lapsangs, they have a decent one. The Yunnan Gold is also good. I haven’t tried a ton of blacks from them, but I love their gunpowder green.
