Every Day Pu-Erh

What would be a tasty and decent priced Pu-erh that you could drink every day? I am looking to find a good quality Pu-Erh that I can drink every day!! Describe a little about the tea you mention and why you would drink it every day?!!!

I actually like Adagio’s pu-erh’s for everyday drinking. They work to only a few cents per cup and are on par with some other pu-erh’s that I have tried but much lower priced. I like the Pu-erh Poe a little bit better than the Dante. Use code 12033403 at checkout to get $5 off www.adagio.com

I know you have some stomach issues so here are some suggestions.
Verdant has 2 blends that have Pu-erhs in them…Imperial Breakfast Summer Blend and Xinguang Silk Road Spice Blend.
Butiki has some individual serving disks and toucha’s… the Ancient Phoenix Puerh is good.
Teavivre has Mengku Palace Ripened Golden Buds Pu-erh 2007 loose tea.
These would all be reasonably priced and good for every day without being harse I think on your stomach but do remember to do 20 second rinse on puerhs and don’t drink any tea on an empty stomach.

That silk road looks amazing, I’m sure it would be great for an upset stomach.

I’ve tried the Mengku Palace puerh it is a great shu!

I’m drinking the Mengku Palace right now, and it’s delightful!

Depends on your budget. I’m fairly new to puerh, and have been buying samples from Bana, Yunnan Sourcing US and PuerhShop. Looking for an every day and some that may be special.

Right now I’m leaning towards the wild/ancient tree raw or Sheng puer from Mengku or Yiwu areas. Ones that are about 7 to 12 years old are very good. Although the Menghai from Bana was nice too. The taste ranges from an Anise to kinda earthy honey.

As for the Shou/cooked type so far I’ve only sampled the ones in the Bana Vintage sampler, besides the mini toucha’s I bought. And I must say the ones from Bana are much better than the Minis I got at a Market Spice in Seattle.

My advice would be to order some samples to find what you like, cause although many are similar, there are differences not only in shou and sheng, but year, and location…

This is right on! My best advice to a new puer drinker is to avoid big outlets like Adagio, or places that sell “mini tuo” puer. These minis are really low in quality, and the bigger retailers just sell from wholesalers, with no information on region and bad storage

Like Bonnie said, Teavivre’s Mengku Palace Ripened Golden buds loose pu-erh would be a great choice, as would their Ripened Aged Mini Tuochas. Both are very affordable, smooth and easy to drink.

It depends on a few things. The first, biggest questions is: raw or cooked?

Second, describe what an “Everday” tea means for you! Can you tell us some of the flavors you like in a puer? For raw, some examples would be floral, leather, tobacco, grain. For cooked, dates, forest, earthy, different kinds of wood.

I drink cooked Douji teas pretty often, but they are a little expensive and difficult to find. For raw teas, I drink a lot of smaller factory teas. If you describe some of what you want in a puer, I will toss my thoughts your direction. My biggest advice would be to go for a retailer who specializes in Pu er. If you buy from some place like Adagio, you won’t get anything decent, as they don’t specialize in Puer. (They do not even list the region it is from, when it was picked, where it was processed, etc) And avoid mini tuo chas. They use low low quality left overs to make those! They are like the Bigelow of puer!

Since you only have 2 pu-erh’s in your cupboard, it’s hard to tell what you would find appealing.

Do you mean ripe pu er or raw pu er?

I really like Dayi (meng hai factory) 7572 or the Zhong cha 7581 for everyday ripe teas. They are smooth and warm, and easy to drink. One is a pu er cake, one is a brick. I would recommend that you buy one that is at least one year old. Some of the ‘fresh’ ones, like 2012, still have a funky taste and need some aging. Anything from 2011 or 2010 should be fine though.

Which company do I buy the Meng hai 7572 or zhong cha 7581 from? Is there any way to get samples/swaps of this Pu-er from companies or steepster members? I would LOVE to try the tea first before buying a brick if possible ;) If anyone has any Pu-er recommendations or Swaps..Please contact me!! Thank you soooo much everyone..my shopping list is filling up mighty fast..LOL ;)

yes the 2010 or 2009 menghai 7572 is pretty good. or a menghai v93 2009 or earlier is a great tea also.

For “everyday” tea, 7572 is a good shu cake

I just placed an order for “verdant teas” for Artisan Revival Banzhang ‘06 Sheng Pu’er and Silver Buds Yabao (2 Oz each)!! They come very highly recommended on steepster!! Thank you to Bonnie for introducing me to Verdant teas and being sooo generous with tea samples ;-)) I only have a couple of teas that I can swap/trade with other members (still building my cupboard ;) to try new tea offerings :) I am writing all of these suggestions down (thank you so much everyone) and building a very large “shopping list” list in the process ..Lol ;)
I am very much enjoying my tea journey so far, even though it is quite daunting trying to perfect my brewing techniques, but oh..so.. enthralling to have so many gorgeous teas to indulge in!! It is all worth it, as it brings such peace and tranquility into my life ;) http://verdanttea.com/an-open-letter-in-defense-of-the-tea-budget/

Hope you enjoy those teas! Post some reviews

The Silver Buds Yabao is very good. If you like floral teas I would suggest trying Verdants Eight Treasures Yabao. If you like mint then I would also suggest trying out Verdants Xinguang Silk Road Spice Blend that Bonnie had suggested. I have both of these and find them absolutely wonderful.

Still trying to find a good everyday Pu-er?? Alot of people mentioned the 7572 and the 7581 Dayi (meng hai factory)!!(what company should I buy them from?) The only Pu-er I have had so far is the “ripened aged pu-erh” (teavivre) and the “silver buds Yabao” (verdant)!! Thank you Bonnie for both of those samples by the way..I am trying to put together a “swap box” for you very soon ;) The silver buds are kinda unique tasting as far as pu-erh’s go (tastes more like a white tea) and the Ripened aged pu-erh was very earthy , which I actually liked very much!! I wish pu-erhs had more of a floral/jasmine taste..that would blend very well with the earthy/grounding component of the Pu-erh!!? Anyone know of a floral/Jasmine scented Pu-erh???
