Soba + a green tea?

Since I love genmaicha so much I thought I’d try the soba (roasted buckwheat kernels) from Harney & Sons and mix them with a green tea. Anyone ever try this?

I’ve never tried that, but I can see it being pretty fantastic!

I love genmaicha too!
Sounds like a good experiment, tell me how it goes.

Not a bad idea! I have never tried this myself, so I look forward to hear your impressions of it.

Plenty of Japanese also mix soba noodles with matcha. If your experiment does not turn out like you wanted then this could perhaps be a nice alternative as well.

Cha soba. The buckwheat noodles are green because it has tea mixed in with the wheat. It’s a common dish at Japanese restaurants.

I was searching for green tea recommendations for a soba blend but kept coming up with the noodles!

There’s also a rice dish called ochazuke. Rice+pickled vegatables+tea. Hot green tea is poured over the rice. There’s a lot more to Japanese food than just sushi.

In addition there’s another Japanese dish called chagayu. It’s made with houjicha, roasted tea.

I had something like this before and I’m sure it’ll taste fine as long as you put in the right proportions. I’ve also had green tea mixed in with a broth before and it was delicious!

My soba and lung ching arrived yesterday and I am very happy with my purchase! I tried the soba with the lung ching I also purchased, and love the toasted dimension it added to this slightly sweet and vegetal green. Soba is not as dramatic as toasted rice, but still very pleasing. I’m going to try it with oolong next, I think.
