Hi Kristin,

We offer “sampler” sets for most of our premium loose teas. If we have something you are especially interested in, that is not in a “sampler” pack, we will be happy to put something together for you.

elemental, I’ve never heard of your company so I imediately went to your website. I love sheng… not so much a shu lover… but I’ve never heard of white pu erh before! Can you please explain what that is? Also could you please explain what amber/golden pu erh is?

Coffee,
This is basically a raw/green/sheng puerh from the high-mountain region of Yunnan. The initial processing differs slightly from a traditional “green” puerh, in that the leaves are withered and SUN DRIED prior to sorting and steaming/pressing/aging. Traditional puerhs are “fired” (quickly heated) after withering in order to neutralize the enzymes in the leaf and stop fermentation.

The resulting cake has a mild “vegetative” aroma. The liquor is very light yellow/green and the taste is very mild without “musty” overtones. This is a very affordable tea for those who are looking for a puerh, but don’t care for that traditional “musty” flavor and aroma. Sorry, I can’t help you on the amber/gold puerh.

So does it have the typical peppery flavor of a yunnan tea? The only golden pu erh I’ve had was a Yunnan and had that peppery taste. I’d love sheng and white pu erh samplers.

Not peppery to my taste, just a very mild tea with a slight bit of astringency at the finish.

“In January of 2010, Jennifer Leigh Sauer launched Bon Teavant Market, a curated collection of 50 teas from 14 suppliers. Working primarily with people who source directly at origin, Sauer created Bon Teavant Market to showcase the best teas from individual vendors’ collections. Consumers can buy teas from a range of importers (including Red Blossom Tea, Floating Leaves and Tao of Tea), pay for shipping once and receive all the teas in a single package.

Most of the teas are packaged in sample sizes of 2 ounces or less. Sauer chose to size orders this way because many of the teas she offers are high-end, and many people don’t want to buy 8 ounces of an expensive tea “just to be able to try it.” "

I don’t think this one has been mentioned before: http://www.sensibiliteasonline.com

I just ran across that one and they have lots of herbals and rooibos to try. I have not ordered from them yet so I cannot vouch for whether they are any good.

Lupicia has fantastic sampler sets that are very reasonably priced (about $1 per cup).

The teas they include usually vary depending on what’s in season, so it’s sure to be fresh. They sell sampler sets according to type (green & oolong, black, non-caffeine) and larger sets with a variety of types (15 or 30 teas).

With a purchase of $30 or more, you’ll get a free year subscription to their monthly tea magazine that includes a free tea sample each month.

Lupicia has been the best tea company for me. I’ve always found their teas to be of the highest quality without breaking the bank. I highly recommend the 15 or 30 set samplers.

$1/cup? that’s pretty pricey. Is it still $35 for the magazine? I know the min. for free shipping went up to $45, so I just assumed it did for the magazine as well.

A sampler of 30 teas is $27.00, so I consider that pretty cheap. If you were to buy 50g of one specific tea, it’s going to be a lot cheaper than $1/cup. So, that’s my reasoning for cheapness. And actually, the magazine is free for a year with a $30 purchase! I just double checked. (I also only brew the leaves once. I suppose you could re-steep the same leaves and thus cut the price further).

Very true, quantity is almost always cheaper… you don’t resteep?! Gasp! lol. Just kidding ;)

As always I offer a variety of samples from a number of different companies all from one place. It is an excellent way to try a variety of teas and only pay once for shipping. Plus, they are reasonably priced. www.iHeartTeas.com :)

One of my favorite merchants, Norbutea.com, has recently started offering samples of more of their teas—not just the puerhs. This coincides with an impressive expansion of his green tea offerings.
