Oolong or Pu-Erh

I recently learned about yixing teapots and their magical ability to absorb the flavors of tea and have decided to purchase one. I’ve also recently discovered pu-erh tea, and how they have the ability to grow in flavor as they age. That being said, I haven’t had but a few cups of pu-erh. I’ve had several cups of oolong, and I love it. I’m just needing help deciding: what tea should get the privilege of seasoning my new teapot?
I know I should decide based on taste preferences, but I’m indecisive. Help.

You could also use your yixing for black tea. I’d use what tea you drink the most of, as it takes awhile for the yixing pot to give back. That way, drinking your favorite tea type (or specific tea) will put extra love into your yixing pot. I gotta say though, my ripe pu’er yixing pot is doing amazing, mostly because I use it the most.

Or just give up, choose 1, see how you like the yixing tea pot and plan to buy more yixing tea pots to cover the other teas.

Hi lanestew, when I was confronted with this problem I just went with the tea I was in the mood for at the time. I seasoned my yixing with big red robe and I don’t regret having it be for oolongs. I recently ordered another one for pu-erhs, so if deciding is too hard you can always just get another yixing pot to have one for each. As long as you give your yixing love and enjoy your tea you can’t go wrong!
