Where to get good Gyokuro samples?

I’m about to take the (potentially pricey) plunge into Gyokuro. Does anyone know where I can get some really great and diverse samples of it? Is there a reputable online vendor where you can buy the samples cheap or that has a sampler pack with multiple samples you can purchase?

Cheers!

Yunomi in general has a very good selection of Japanese teas and they offer samples of almost all of them. :)

I second Yunomi, they are a fantastic Japanese tea shop.

It’s 10g of each type right? Not 10g overall?

Yes 10g of each tea. Their samples are usually 10g. :)

You can also get two free samples per month by going here: https://yunomi.us/shop/6142/free-press-sample/ Just tell them in the note that you want gyokuro or write in specific teas you want to try.

Interesting. I am definitely not ready for flavored gyokuro, as I haven’t even tried any yet!

Flavored? Whoa.

Oh wow, that is a cool idea!

Ehhhhh I dunno…

Anyone know anything about O-cha’s gyokuro?

I’ve had their Yame Gyokuro before and enjoyed it quite a bit. It has been a while but they are good company.

I ended up ordering Yunomi’s gyokuro sampler just because it is a good deal pricewise and I will need a little practice to get the gyokuro brewing just right, but I do think I will try some of O-cha’s when I go to order a full order of some. the Tsurijirushi is the one that has my attention, based on the rave reviews.

That one looks really good.

I tried one of O-Cha’s gyokuro teas and thought it tasted like wet lettuce. Maybe I don’t fully appreciate gyokuro but it was undrinkable for me. I’ve been mixing it with sencha and brewing it hot to get some bitter in it just so I can finish it off.

Dang. Do you remember which one it is?

It’s the Gyoku-Hou.

Yunomi is a good option. One of the best Gyokuro teas I’ve ever had comes from Aiya.

I was looking around recently for some Japanese teas too. I tried to get Den’s Tea sampler but they didn’t ship to Canada.

If you aren’t looking for gyokuro specifically, here are some really cool Japanese tea samplers. I just ordered the Obubu Tea Samples, which comes with quite a few! I’m excited for it to arrive. I have had their Sencha of the Summer sun and it is my favorite sencha yet.

Oh wow, they’ve reduced their shipping since I last looked at their samplers. It used to be ridiculous. Obubu teas are available on Yunomi as well.
