Tonight I’m finishing off my packet of this tea. The aroma is spot-on chocolate cherry. The chocolate flavor is a bit boozy, but it compliments the cherry nicely, which, thankfully, is not veering into medicinal territory. The honeybush is sweet, and I’m getting notes of oats and that pepper note I always get from honeybush, which is blending with the chocolate to give sort of a Mayan chocolate vibe. The flavors are just really harmonizing well together!

With milk, this was pretty enjoyable. The honeybush and chocolate go super well together, and there’s almost a fun saltiness in there, but I don’t know what would contribute that – it sort of reminds me of cookie dough. The first time I had this, I didn’t detect any cherry, but I sort of did the second time. If I think of this as chocolate cookie dough, it’s a total success. It reminds me of the rocky road flavor from a few years back.

I appreciated the cacao shells here – nice chocolate flavour! No cherry to speak of.

Love, love, love this concept!!

The dry leaf aroma of this tea is seriously drool inducing – cakey chocolate, a bit of cream, but most importantly this sweet cherry aroma that totally nails the supple-y sweet “cherry filling” style of cherry that’s in a Black Forest Cake. It’s basically exactly what I would expect a Black Forest inspired tea to smell like.

The taste is good, but the epicness of the dry leaf aroma doesn’t perfectly transfer. It does get really close though – and I definitely didn’t expect it to taste exactly the same. The honeybush comes through a lot in the taste and, while I like the taste of the honeybush Anne uses as her base a lot, a part of me wanted less of it so that I could focus more on the dynamic of the chocolate and sweet, syrupy cherry. Though, I think it’s a brilliant base choice because it sort of naturally leans a bit into that “cakey” element when coupled with the chocolate.

The cherry is nice, but it loses the battle to the chocolate in terms of flavour dominance. In a black forest inspired tea (in my opinion) the chocolate _should_be the stronger flavour but I felt like the chocolate really had a chokehold on the cherry here and I didn’t taste much of it until the finish as the more dominant honeybush and chocolate notes waned a little.

Overall, excellent tea though! Cannot wait to try it with a spot of milk.
