Matcha Latte!
Our next stop after Whittards was a cool down and re-energize at Blank Street, specifically because I wanted to try their seasonal Rhubarb & Custard matcha latte. I know their approach is rather polarizing, but I still find Blank Street really fascinating.
Compared to the matcha lattes we’d had earlier in the day from Jenki, the quality of the matcha in this beverage was definitely lower. It was a milkier drink that visibly used much less matcha, and had a less distinct matcha taste. However, the rhubarb and custard flavour was much better than either Jenki flavour, in my opinion. It was rich but still tangy and tart and tasted like both named flavours very clearly without doing so in a cloying or artificial way. I wish I could have “frankensteined” the two drinks to use the matcha from jenki but the compotes from Blank Street.
In general, I really enjoyed how many rhubarb flavoured things there were in both countries we visited. I wish rhubarb was a more commercial flavour here in Canada. It’s just so good!
