From DAVIDsTEA

Hit reset with a sweet cleansing oolong. This soothing blend features whole tangerine wedges for an irresistibly juicy flavour, plus turmeric & ginger – two ingredients known to help detox the body & improve digestion. Like liquid glow-up for your gut.

What makes it great

A pale greenish gold blend with floral oolong & sweet tangerine juice.

Complex but maintains a good balance with a slight “glow” from the oolong.

The whole tangerine wedges really add a pop of citrus flavour.

Apple (apple, citric acid), Ginger, Candied ginger (sugar, ginger, citric acid), Oolong tea, Turmeric, Natural lemon flavouring, Tangerine wedges, Moringa leaves, Spearmint, Pink peppercorn.

Floral oolong mingles with tangerine juice – accented with a zing of turmeric & ginger.

I’m always in the market for a stevia-free oolong blend, and Tangerine Turmeric sounded right up my alley. Unfortunately, I think the chunkiness of this blend hinders its ability to perform well. This particular cup was incredibly tart and tangy, tasting mostly of citrus; lemon then tangerine. The ginger appears alongside the turmeric towards the tail end of the sip. (My chronic heartburn can confirm its presence.) There’s a smidgen of mint that appears at the end as well, but it’s very slight.

I appreciate that there’s zero bitterness or astringency, but this blend feels more like a lemon ginger tisane, and less like an oolong blend. Ultimately, Tangerine Turmeric was a miss for me, but I will keep experimenting with the remainder of my 50g to see if I can yield better cups.

Currently working on sipping through this one. It’s okay, just not something I need to have on hand. It’s mainly incredibly tart- like citric acid. It’s definitely more of a lemon flavor, rather than tangerine. There’s also a nice bit of of earthiness from the turmeric. Sadly, I can’t taste the oolong at all. I love that there’s moringa as well, but it doesn’t impact the flavor.

Geek Steep S1E15 – V for Vendetta

This is an example of one of those pairings that just doesn’t work.

Going in to this week’s Geek I knew very, very little about the actual content of the graphic novel we were reading aside from the fact it was a bit darker/heavier in nature and would in some way revolve around anarchy. I really had no clue how to approach the pairing, and so what ended up happening was that I made a mug of tea and then realized I had time to start reading the graphic novel… so that became my pairing.

I knew within the first five pages that this was the wrong tea. I mean, I like this tea but it’s very bright and sunny with vibrant, juicy and sharp notes of tangerine and a crisp mint undertone with actually minimal amounts of spice. It was too full of life and cheeriness to possibly work with this graphic novel.

Sometimes your pairing just doesn’t work though – and thankfully I was able to recover from it and find something more suitable for the rest of my read through!

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
