From Tealux

Genmai Cha is Japanese tea that combines popped brown rice kernels, corn, and tender green tea leaves. This tea has a mild taste of green tea with a hint of roasted rice that some find close to the taste of popcorn. This is one of the most popular teas at restaurants in Japan.

Hey folks, Great news… I didn’t add sweetener to this tea!

I might have killed it a little (water too hot) because it’s a teensy bit bitter but I like it. And I like it just as is! Now this is likely because I eat a lot of sushi and all the Japanese restaurants serve green tea that tastes little like this. And they never give you sugar. So I got used to drinking it sans sucre. Hello familiar taste! Now where’s my sushi?!?

2 minute steep, 1 perfect measure.

Dry it smells toasty, a little like popcorn. There’s popped kernels in there too. A pale yellow liquor. Tastes like popcorn (or toasted rice, the bag says).

Thank you goes to Dexter3657 who sent me too many teas for me to ever be able to reciprocate.

I think that the act of steeping genmaicha should cause a plate of sushi to magically appear. Mmmmmm.

Love Genmaicha. The earthy, grassy, and rice flavors. The way its good hot and slightly chilled. Honestly I find that the true flavor comes out as it cools down. That is the case especially with this tea.

I’m pretty sure Genmaicha and I are going to elope one of these days. It’s such a comforting, toasty warm taste. I love the little popcorn pieces! I could curl up with a bottomless mug of this and die happy. (The way it actually happened was: I brewed a mug in the morning too late to drink it all before leaving for class, which is luckily right across the street. However, not being in possession of a thermos, my solution was just to take the mug down to class and finish it there. Why no, I didn’t look weird at all walking down the street like that.)
