2 oz gaiwan

I’m about ready to buy a Gawain but I’d only be using it for myself. Usually, in the morning I will drink 1 maybe 2 cups of tea but no more. Is a 2 oz Gawain too small, or is it just right for a person who doesn’t drink a lot in one sitting?

Well I just bought a teapot online and when I got it, I measured it… 50ml, or just under 2oz. This thing is tiny! I can’t really imagine using it myself because it is just so small. I have a 3oz gaiwan that is a better volume.

To put it in perspective 2oz wouldn’t even fill a teacup from a classical English style tea set. Though it would fill an espresso cup. This can be a good size for teas that you are doing multiple infusions in one sitting though. What kind of teas are you drinking?

Well, that was my thought process with multiple infusions. I drink all types but greens especially. I figure get a small one if I’m planning on doing 4+ infusions, and a larger one for less.

I have a 5 ounce Gaiwan I use for green teas. Three infusion fill about two teacups. I might like to have a smaller gaiwan for some of my oolongs especially the ones I take past 7 infusions. For everything else I use a 200ml Gaiwan. Hope that helps a little..

60-70 ml (which is about 2 oz) is about the right size for me. I use small cups, though (35-50 ml). You could double-brew, but I would invest in small cups if you get such a small gaiwan.

It’s a personal choice. If you’re unsure, I’d suggest brewing 2 ounces worth in a porcelain teacup a couple of days and see if it works for you. I find 5-6 ounces the perfect size for me.

Thank you for all your responses. I’m going with 2oz for now, I’m sure I’ll need other sizes in the future :)
