Breville Ikon Heating Problem?

Hey Everyone!
So this morning I went to make a delicious cup of tea, and HORROR OF HORRORS, my kettle did not heat up! I checked back wondering if I had forgotten to turn it on, but the light was still on. I tried everything to get it to work, from checking different outlets, to using less water, to trying to see if any of the electrical connections were slightly messed up. I couldn’t find anything. I tried looking online, an I saw one or two reviews from years ago about this problem, but it does not seem that it is not a terrible common problem. I was just wondering if anyone here has had this problem before. I emailed customer service, but I don’t know if I will need to get a new power cord or if my kettle is kaput. Any info would be greatly appreciated! I have had this kettle for about four years, so I have had it a while, but I still feel like I paid way too much for this kettle to break!

I would be horrified if my breville stopped working! I feel your pain! Have you figured anything out yet? Did they email you back yet?

Honestly I think you are out of luck if you have had the kettle over a year.

To be honest, I think four years out of an electric kettle is par for the course. Things are built to throw away and not last. Buying a kettle then becomes a balance of paying only so much for pretty much equal value. I think these days the cost is more about features and brand name than reliability. My 5 year old kettle developed a leak under the water level window, it is plastic so how many times can it expand and contract before it just gives way? I hate looking for a new one and they all have something plastic or something that will just wear out in a few years no matter what.

I did end up hearing back from Breville customer support. They said that getting a replacement power base only had a 50% chance of working, and if it did not work, there are not refunds on parts orders. They then told me that I had two other options: Spend $50 and get it repaired, or get 40% off and free shipping for any kettle or tea maker on the Breville website. I am tempted to see if this discount could be applied to the One-touch tea maker, but if not I may just get a cheap little kettle or something… Customer service was very helpful and very nice though, so it was all ok!
