Probably one of the nicest teas I have ever had. I was mailed a sample directly from the Yogi company and at first I was a bit wary. I was thinking it was going to taste like licorice candy or licorice ropes. The very strong, bitter, black-tasting licorice that stains your teeth and ruins jellybeans at Easter. This is not the case.
It’s a very spicy, fruity-sweet tea that has an amazing after taste. I made this and steeped it in a pot for 4 minutes with no sugar & no honey (my preference is honey). After the first cup I was thinking it was a fluke. “The aftertaste can’t be so naturally sweet.” I was thinking. I poured a second cup. Same thing. This is an amazing stand-alone tea that does not need any other sweetener. It can hold it’s own and I would highly recommend it to anyone for those late night comfort-drinks.
Preparation
So, it tastes terrible – there’s no two ways about it. If it tasted more of licorice, I might enjoy it more. But, it HAS been kind of helpful. I just wish I didn’t have to bolt down a cup to get the benefits because I can’t stand the taste. I’m keeping my box as a last resort, but honestly? I’d rather treat my symptoms with a Snickers, Excedrin and a cup of tea I actually like.
Preparation
This is a really odd tea. It has a different scent and flavor… and not in a good way. It tastes like a diet soda and I can’t stand diet sodas. If I’m drinking soda, it best not have those fake sugars. I think both teas and sodas would taste better without the fake sugars. It even tastes like vitamins have been diluted in here! Along with the fake sugars, this has a sour raspberry taste. And this is supposed to have assam in it? It’s very weak if it’s there at all. But there is just a ton of odd ingredients in this. I like that Yogi tries to be different, I just wish they would be different in a good, tasty way.
There’s the licorice! It’s at the back of my throat as I swallow a modest sip (as opposed to gulping it down yesterday) and take time to taste it.
The scent is still cinnamon, with cardamom underneath. Tasting is sweet sweet sweet, with the licorice blooming on my tongue if I don’t rush it. I added a lot of half-and-half, which I think is drowning the pepper and ginger.
This is GOOD. Bumping up my rating even higher. I wonder whether I’ll find the orange peel next time?
Preparation
So, too much caffeine yesterday, keeping it low today. This tea is sweet and delicious, esp. with half and half. Reminded me of Bengal Spice. Next time I will pay better attention, not drink so quickly, and seek the licorice. I mostly got cinnamon this time.
Preparation
Just now I was sitting hunched over my computer, trying not to think about the tax deadline, and suddenly I was very glad to remember that I had an unopened box of ginger tea on the shelf.
Oh my goodness, the scent was delightful when I tore open the packet. Ginger (which I love) and lemon, which I sometimes love. I let it steep a long time, leaving the bag in, and continuing to sniff as it steeped. The ginger aroma is very strong and pleasant.
First sip or two confirms the gingery/peppery flavor. This is a tea for those who enjoy the heat of ginger, not just its sweet spiciness. I am one of those people, frequently asking for chopped ginger at Asian restaurants to mix into unexpectedly bland dishes. I don’t care for jalapenos in general, but I do like ginger and I do like black pepper, and this tea, with a sharp little bite of lemon/lemongrass at the end, is very appealing. I do not taste the licorice or peppermint, but I can feel the coolness of the mint tempering the heat of the ginger when I hold a mouthful before swallowing.
Definitely a keeper. And I haven’t though about the tax deadline for several minutes now.
Preparation
This is a standard tea in my house, all of my family love it and we drink it pretty much every day. Every now & then when we are running low I go to Trader Joe’s (who sell it for a dollar less than I’ve seen anywhere else) and buy ten boxes at a time. This is a tea for people who really LOVE ginger and licorice, it is firey, peppery and bold with a strong licorice undernote. To let you know where I’m coming from when I need the curative powers of ginger I just eat ginger root raw and I grew up being given licorice root to chew on as a “candy” by my hippie mother. Ginger & licorice make me very, very happy. When I’m going out on an expidition I often throw a bag of this into a thermal flask, fill it up with boiling water and let it steep for hours, it just gets better the longer you steep it.
Preparation
Haven’t tried this yet but found it at a local grocery yesterday evening. We are supposed to be getting a couple of Trader Joe’s later this year. How’s the tea selection overall?
Not that great I’m afraid! But everything they do have is very reasonably priced. The TJs I’ve been to usually have two flavors of Yogi tea, some boxed pre-made chai and a range of (bagged) green, black & herbal tea. Sometimes they have white tea and flavored teas as well. I’ve tried a variety of their teas but the only one I really like is Yogi ginger – but then I love that and am so grateful they have it cheap, so I can’t complain too much!
Wow. Tonight was one of those nights where I guess I needed a migraine pill, but now I don’t get to sleep!
I’ve had this one for a very long time and I’m actually surprised that the baggies still smell relatively fresh. I used two baggies just in case it is a bit weak now. Somehow this is way better than what I remember? I wish I would’ve let it steep just a bit longer. It has just a bit of a fake-sugar taste which I don’t appreciate. But the spices are pretty light and mainly cinnamon. The chocolate is there, but could use some body.
It has been a long time since I last had this! I’m having this as a super late night cuppa. This tea was something that my husband actually liked a lot. So I just found out I wasn’t out of it and I figured I’d give it a run.
It is warm and spicy, but not overly so. I like the slight chocolate. I think a lot of the Yogi teas I’ve had lately are very cinnamon-y. Which isn’t bad at all. This has an underlying flavor I can’t quite put my finger on. But it is all pretty good.
I seem to like all these Yogi teas everyone hates. lol
Preparation
This is just a staple tea in my cupboard now. My husband knows I love this one so much that he purchased some for me on Valentines day. This tea is amazingly soothing on the throat. It has notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. There is also a type of herbal, bark-like quality that I actually really enjoy. A+ everyday store tea. A small note though, Target is usually the best for acquiring this for me; the price is always lower than other stores and they usually have coupons. At Sprout’s this week this was $5 a box while the Target price was only ~ $3.40.
Another box of this?!
Yup!
I guess it could be a lot worse. I actually love all the yogi teas that I’ve tried as far as bagged ones go. I had my first day of classes today and boy was that stressful! It was also boiling lava hot so I just was not in a good mood. This will hopefully tide over the start of the migraine I’m feeling crawling up on me.
As always, very robust, earthy, cinnamon flavored with a hint of sweetness. This is my ultimate anyman’s store bagged tea.
So about a week ago we ran out of this again! I think that we’re on our 5th box. But while looking at the tea we noticed that some nice person had left a $1 off coupon on top of the tea boxes. Excellent! So we got one of our house staples for just a bit cheaper!
This tea is a must have for our house. My husband says it really makes his throat feel better and I tend to agree. We always oversteep it; 13-15 min. instead of the suggested 10 min. This gives it just a bit more kick and it never becomes bitter/astringent/etc. so this is pretty much foolproof. Anyone could make this tea. If I’m ever feeling down/sick my husband likes to make this one for me because it’s so easy.
The flavor is heavily cinnamon/nutmeg and some overlying spice flavors. There is a sweetness to it that might not be expected. Overall this is a very good herbal that is easy to find and easy to make.
I am updating this because I just went through my new box already! I checked and that means that my husband and I drank 16 sachets of this in less than a week! O.O Damn tea, you popular! I have to change my steep time because although the bag says that 10min is their suggested steep time, I go for ~13. The longer steep time brings out some of the flavors that using 2x bags usually does. This way I use less bags and still get an amazing cup of tea.
Preparation
I hope you like it! I think I’m one of the only people who enjoyed it. I know lots of people were mad about the not mixing things with kava stuff.
Love the effect of kava, but I usually steer clear of Yogi because of all the licorice they put in their blends. Not seeng it here, though. May be worth a try.
lol This is a tea Steepster seems to love to hate. But this is my fourth box of this tea and I just keep steeping! My husband actively asks for this tea and he never does that. He says that the sensation/flavor at the back of your throat when drinking this is why he enjoys it so much. This tea is something that I will always try to keep around for relaxing and just enjoyment. It is noticeably better with 2x bags instead of just one.
I should try this. I tried kava a while ago and thought it made me queasy, does it have the same effect on you?
I was just looking at reviews of this and boy they are really all over the place!
I got this sample in the mail along with the sleepy time blend. This arrived at the point where you don’t remember you requested the sample, but not long enough that you remember and get angry because it isn’t here yet. :p Which was perfect! I’ve been having a wonderful day so this is just for tasting.
The smell of the bag is distinctly woodsy. There is some sharp cinnamon notes followed by yet more woodsy-ness. The very first thing I thought while smelling this was “camping.” The steeping smell seems very nutmeg like with some licorice.
Ohhh my gosh. This one smells very different to how it tastes! It really coats the throat with the cinnamon/nutmeg flavor. I loved this. It has a really unique mouth feel.
I will have to use my coupon I got with this to buy this tea. It is simply awesome. I don’t really care about if it actually calms me down. Simply because sitting and drinking tea does that. But, if I do get anything I will let you guys know!
Preparation
I really don’t like drinking “health” teas specially ones for when you’re sick with a cold or with the flu. I really don’t like the tastes of this, and it felt like a mix of a whole bunch of things that doesn’t go well together. It did made me feel a bit better health wise with my cold, but it sure wasn’t a tasty tea at all. It was rather yucky!
Not technically a tea, but I’m totally sucked in by the cute tea tag (“Be proud of who you are.”). I can smell the cocoa shells more than taste them, although the scent is predominantly spice (I think it’s the cardamom). I think this would be great with hot cocoa mixed in. I like mine with some milk and sugar.
