Online Tea Business - Radical idea

I am creating a company and website where the tea suppliers I am partnered with will be giving me permission to sell their products on my website – Like an ebay or Amazon.com with only one focus. I am trying to do some market research and I wanted to know if an online shop where you can compare different tea suppliers make sense and would spark interest? If you’re a regular consumer or a retailer that buys tea wholesale your opinion would be very appreciated. We’re looking to open very soon and getting the final touches to our website development.

A tea only version of EBay would be quite interesting if set up properly. For me this means accepting Paypal and selling smaller than wholesale quantities.

Hi Allan, our plan is to accommodate everyone of our customers both wholesale and general. We’re setting the goal for launch Memorial day. Hope this is not considered spamming but if you’re interested and/or know of people that might be as well. Here’s our facebook we will announcing the official launch date on Facebook and via email. https://www.facebook.com/teashoppedotcom

This was already done. Its called teatra.de. unfortunately, the initial interest that surrounding it died, and it wasn’t a success. So teatrade refocused on its tea blog hosting platform instead.

Oh wow, what went wrong that they weren’t able to continue?

Just not enough interest. I think there was a big buzz around the idea when it was still in development, but I remember when it was still up and there was maybe ten different sellers, tops. You’d have to speak with the admin.

I think something like that, most large companies would see no benefit in investing, and you’d really have to prove to smaller companies that it’d be worthwhile (its circular: you need a large buyer base to attract sellers, but you need things to sell to attract buyers). When teatra.de started up, I thought it’d be great for etsy teablenders to move to, but I don’t think any did.

Hi Aj,

Thanks for the reply and letting me know. I’ll definitely contact them for more info. That etsy idea is a very good idea that I’ll look in to, thank you. Our main focus for the company is quality, variety and customer service. We want to give the little guys the chance to reach a broader audience and retail shops that would otherwise look the other way. The bigger vendors I know will take time though they would be welcome to join at any time. Our priority is to every vendor that partners with us, give them a voice and a spotlight and our customers both general and retail, to find good quality tea and top notch tea accessories that’s fair priced by vendors that CAN provide that for them.

Teatra.de doesn’t seem to have a contact us…

HI,
It looks like this would be kind of Drop Shipping service. People place an order with you and you order from us and have it shipped to customer directly. Unless your price is better than at the main stores, what would be the reason to shop at your place? You’d have to offer something unique. Logistics may be a nightmare. I sell my products on at least 5 different sites and updating inventory, specials and coupons is a nightmare. Not sure how you’d do it with your partnering suppliers.
Good luck. Hope it works.
