Tea and Nerds

Love Star Trek. Love tea. Picard. “Earl Grey, Hot”. Worf. Spock.
Nerd? Tea Nerd? This seems like a logical conclusion:)

So true but ya gotta have some Kirk love too.

CaraTobe said

YES! I was waiting for this. Also — Vulcan Spice Tea? Yet another logical conclusion.

You are right! There is plenty of love to share among all the Captains.
I totally agree about Vulcan Spice Tea.
Both comments are only logical.
Thanks:)

I always liked Janeway the best. She was pure badass.

Janeway is definitely a badass!

Sorry, but Deep Space Nine was the best of the series. And Major Kira was the Baddest of the BAs.

Cheers, man! *grew up watching various incarnations of Star Trek *

I prefer Babylon 5 to Deep Space Nine.. I just couldn’t get into DS9 though I loved Nextgen, Voyager, and Enterprise.

Agreed. I had a crush on Odo.

I just finished Enterprise on Netflix. I think wins my vote for best series. Well, until halfway through the last season where the writers knew they were getting canned.

I wouldn’t consider myself a “nerd”…not into gaming or computers other than what is required for work, I like sci-fi to a certain degree, enjoy sports/going to the gym, listen to hip hop and rock. I enjoy tea like I do wine and scotch…I like to find the subtleties from one tea to another, and enjoy the unque variations and flavor of each tea. Tea is my Zen!

Love this thread. I wonder if your teas especially appeal to those of us who may like collecting, which seems to be one of the themes among geeks (and we could get into a discussion of geek vs. nerd but I’ll leave that for another day). I drink tea with my son while we play board games – sound familiar? My tea collection may soon approach our game collection (not really) and maybe even my yarn collection. But it’s not your grandma’s tea that I drink, nor her socks that I knit. I drink and play and knit on the edge, and I like it that way!

And on that note, I’d love to analyze the demographics of steepster members and their tea choices… But for that I’d need research ethics board approval!

Fairyfli said

heehee, I totally agree with you, I feel as if Frank has found the niche of collectors! I hate some of the teas that I have missed… I so want Frank to do more redos!

Now THAT is a quote for the ages, “I knit on the edge.”

Since you knit, are you on Ravelry.com? That is knitter/crocheter crack if there ever was any….

I wish the beau were more into board games. I’ve got a whack of them, but most of them (according to him) are no fun with only two players and all of my friends are my age, AKA they hate anything without electronics. We settle for cards, most of the time.

Interesting thought about tea people being collectors. I certainly am. Pretty much all my life I have collected things. My biggest collection is music. I collect cds, tapes, vinyls, promo release stuff, posters, t-shirts, etc. My husband and I are also very much into games, especially card games and we are gamblers.

Jen, I’m heathero on ravelry, but I haven’t logged on in ages. Too busy drinking tea ;).

Uniquity, we’re thankful for my elder son, who is 17, and loves games. It opens up so many possibilities (this weekend was Automobile…).

52teas, glad you liked my quote. I like (no love) your tea, so we’re even.

Yay! I really missed this topic completely… But now that it has resurfaced I will join the self proclaimed Nerds! And proud of it!!! :)

I missed it too, so thanks for reviving it. I’m a nerd as well. But there’s nothing wrong with that.

I’m not a nerd in the TRADITIONAL sense, but I’m a nerd about the things I’m passionate about: Reading, education, cooking and tea. I don’t watch scifi, read anime, or play video games. I do watch cooking shows all day, read books like they’re providing me with oxygen and spend my spare time lesson planning. Oh, and then I’m a member of steepster which usually sounds like this when I mention it to my friends, “On steepster, this tea social networking site of which I’m a part- Yes, I’m a member of a tea website……”

I am a nerd of two things, Tea & Tattoos.

I have way too many types of tea for my own good. And some would say I have too many tattoos for my own good. I could talk to you about tattoos & tea (in unrelated topics) for days on end.

Yes, but do you have any TEA TATTOOS?

I’m still debating on my first tattoo. I saw an interesting idea of tattooing family members handwriting, and since my dad passed away in 2007 and my grandma last year I kinda wanna do that… I JUST found an old card from my dad that would work for that purpose so maybe sometime soon…..

Babble said

I don’t have any tattoos. I worry that because I’m so fickle, a few years down the road I’d regret it. There was a cool community on LJ I used to follow called “Gaming Tattoos”. Some of those were fantastic.

A handwriting tattoo sounds really unique! I’ve always found the face tattoos a little creepy and hard to pull off.

No tea tattoo…. yet! I have been thinking about it.

Oh I lie… I am nerdy about 1 more thing… Fraggle Rock! I have a large back piece tattoo of the main Fraggles.

I wanted to get a vegan tattoo but everyone says that’s stupid haha

I have a card from my grandma that says, “Know that you are loved. Me more, Grandma” and i JUST found the one from my dad, but i believe it says, “Love ya baby girl! Pops”

I dunno where to put them, though…..

tattooed_tea-Wow, that is awesome that you have a Fraggle Rock tattoo. I love that show.

MadelineAlyce-Why would getting a vegan tattoo be stupid? I’ve thought about getting that done.

They say, “what happens when you’re not vegan anymore?” And I’m like…. umm that will never ever be the case!!!!

Face Palm. I get the “you’re still vegan” line all the time.

When you’re 64 like me the idea of a tatoo is too much like getting another wrinkle or dark spot. Heck no! I need all the smooth and clear patches I can get!
I’m a used to be vegan…all say boo now….
I became too allergic to be vegan! Allergic to beans, potatos, lots of vegetables. I BECAME AN ALLERGIC TO VEGAN PERSON!
No way was I going to suffer wheat and rice, yams and greens and figure that out as my only food. I had to add dairy!

My mom is turning 61 in October and just got her first tattoo a few years ago now wants more!!!

Luckily, I’m not allergic to anything except milk so being vegan helps haha. I do have an autoimmune disorder, but being vegan is like the only thing that’s controlled it all my life! That, and drinking fluids. Thank you tea!

I work in a tattoo studio, you’d be surprised at how many 60+ clients we get. Some getting their first tattoos & some adding to the collection they have.
