Dark Tea around the world.

I will be doing a small presentation to the MN Tea Society on Saturday about Dark Tea, and I want to make sure I know of all the countries that produce it.
Thus far, I have China, Japan, Laos, Korea, and Myanmar.

What am I missing? And if you have any input on how to present or anything I am all ears.

I don’t have much experience with dark tea, but I know that Thailand and Vietnam produce some. I’ve also heard of puerh-style teas coming from India, and Mountain Stream has produced some puerh-style cakes from Taiwanese material. Finally, the Satemwa Estate in Malawi produces some dark tea. I have no idea how any of these taste.

Good luck with your presentation!

I believe Tibet and Nepal produce dark tea. (Yes, many say Tibet is part of China.). Also, I’m not at all surprised to learn that a form of dark tea is made in Assam/India, which might be the same that @Leafhopper was referring to.

I will include Tibet as its own since that is very unique and butter tea is, I think, something that should be honored as a special cultural tradition. And I had no idea there was an Indian tea! That is fascinating!

Also Bhutan! It’s officially sorted as a black tea, but I think puerh is better IMO.

I can see what you mean. I think they are probably putting it into the black/red category to avoid the dark tea head who might give them a hard time… but it does have fermentation so.. gah
