tea learning ?

Is there a specific place where different teas are described ? I ask because I see the topic of where to buy Matcha and I have no idea what is Matcha .I’m not even sure if matcha is even an actual tea . I wasn’t sure to ask on that topic thread ( its rather long ) or is there a section one can read about different teas ? not sure if its my getting older or if the land of internet is getting so difficult to find ones way around lol .

Here is a good place to start http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea

Type matcha, Darjeeling, etc into the search box

Keep it simple… don’t let the terminology confuse you

Try some new teas, sample packs

Some of my suppliers are excellent at reccomending teas that I think I will like. Its nice to have such a personal relationship

Okie dokie, I know I am probably forgetting some because I am sleepy, but here we go:
http://fineteafocus.blogspot.com/ a good collection of articles on types of tea, tools, tea tasting, and the culture

http://www.myjapanesegreentea.com/ All about Japanese Teas (like Matcha!)

http://www.worldoftea.org/ Great info on tea, including some scientific stuff

http://www.tching.com/ an incredibly large collection of all sorts of tea things

http://www.amazon.com/19-Lessons-On-Tea-Drinking/dp/0988770504 A good beginners guide, no pictures though which made me sad…I do love my pictures in an informative book

http://www.amazon.com/New-Tea-Companion-Jane-Pettigrew/dp/0979343178 This guide has TONS of different teas..ok actually it talks about 120 different teas.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Story-Tea-Cultural-Drinking/dp/1580087450 Contains info about the culture, history, and about tea itself

http://www.amazon.com/Tea-Terroirs-Varieties-Kevin-Gascoyne/dp/1554079373 and lastly this book, probably my favorite, it has a little bit of everything and is beautiful.

I hope that helps!

www.teavivre.com and www.verdanttea.com have really good articles on their websites regarding tea.

I would also suggest just doing google searches if you have a specific question. From there you can look into specific resources if you find something that interests you.

A tea book I found most interesting and helpful is “The Tea Enthusiast’s Handbook” by Mary Lou Heiss and Robert J Heiss. It is subtitled “A Guide to Enjoying the World’s Best Teas”, and has good detail and excellent photos of each tea described and cups of that tea so you can see the color. Highly recommended, and a book I keep going back to.

May I second this. If you want a tea bible this is a great book and makes you think before you brew.

It is well written and as an example suggests weighing your tea or upping the amount of tea depending on what you are using and leaf size. It also gives you great brewing information and suggests a selection of nice whites, greens, oolongs etc

Paid about £8 from amazon
