From 52teas

I don’t typically eat scones for breakfast. Usually, the only time I have scones is when I go to the tea house with my daughter and somebody else bakes scones for me.

But I like scones and blueberry scones are yummy! Delicious, biscuit-y/bread-y flavors with a strong buttery note that comes not just from the flavorings but the Chinese Sencha, selected for this blend because of it’s strong buttery presence. And the blueberry! YUM!

Organic Ingredients: Chinese Sencha, Freeze-Dried Blueberries, All-Natural Flavorings

Delighted to find an unopened package of this tea, and it smelled great when I opened it – blueberry and green tea! Kind of like Blackberry Custard Tart. Flavour is less intense than I expected given the aroma, but it’s still tasty, and there is some nice creaminess in the end of the sip. This obviously would have been better fresh but pretty impressive for a green to last this long.

This has an awesome blueberry flavor. So sweet and light and definitely reminiscent of the blueberry flavor you get in pastries. I’m also not usually a fan of greens but 52 teas has a way of either completely covering the vegetal notes of the base or somehow incorporating them into the flavor. Here I get the tiniest bit of base that lends just a touch of earthiness to help sell a more natural blueberry flavor. I don’t know if scone immediately comes to mind though, however to me that is a hard thing to emulate as I don’t know how distinctive scones themselves taste since usually I have had them glazed or with jams or some other element that overpowers their flavor. With that said, this is more than just a blueberry tea as pastry notes are definitely present so when the title scone is given to this, I can accept this as a scone tea.

I must admit that I’m feeling a little ornery this afternoon. I’m not sure why really. I probably just need a snack or a hug. Both would be nice actually. But I decided on this green tea because I read once that the antioxidants in both green tea and blueberries actually help to keep a person calm and positive. I’m not sure how true that is, but if my mind believes it then maybe it will serve as my placebo today and dupe me into acting accordingly.

The tea has a nice blueberry flavor and aroma. It is fragrant both in its dried and steeped form. The tea is roughly chopped, stem and leaf and all. It’s green like cooked spinach but smells infinitely better. Sweet. The small dried berries remind me of my favorite blueberry cereal so that alone makes me glad to drink it. It is distinctly blueberry, not the generic berry flavor that I usually experience in fruity teas. Green tea isn’t always a favorite, but I’ve had a few lately now that the air is getting warmer. It seems like the right time.

Second Steep
8 ounces water + 175 degrees + 3 minutes

I’m trying this a second time, though with the fruit I’m not sure it will hold up. Just finished steeping this and it tastes just like the first cup. I’m tempted to try a third but it’s nearly time for dinner so I’ll probably stop here.

I can’t help in the snack department, but I can send a virtual hug so…HUG!!! And blueberry scone sounds positively delish!
