My last matcha latte of the day was at Cowdog’s newest location in Kitsilano, and I was probably most excited to visit them more than anywhere else I crammed into that Sunday.
If you’re not following either Joe (the owner), Cowdog (the business), or Dew Matcha (their houseline of matcha) on IG right now then I think you’re really missing out – right now they’re one of my absolute favourite businesses and creators. They’re also a living wage cafe with no upcharges on different milk options, and a no tipping policy. Still very fairly priced. I respect the hell out of what they’re doing.
The space itself was beautiful even though it was packed. Definitely a serious line of people waiting to get in. Despite that the service was great, and everything was well paced and structured in terms of line management. I picked up their Strawberry Matcha latte (iced) with oat milk, and one of the last cardamom buns they had for the day. I was also lucky because some seating opened up just as I was finishing paying.
This was the best matcha latte I had during the trip, for sure. Silky smooth and buttery tasting matcha with a gentle nuttiness that suited the oat milk, and the strawberry jam was sweet but not cloying/sugary and the perfect thick but smooth consistency. They counterbalanced each other REALLY nicely.
I was just overall so deeply impressed by the experience!
Here are some photos of all the places I crammed in throughout the afternoon, including all of the other matcha/hojicha drinks I’ve just reviewed. However, Cowdog was my favourite, and it’s the first picture in the carousel so sharing it here:
