Tiny Frog / Toad Tea Pet from Crimson Lotus Tea

Tiny Frog / Toad Tea Pet

This 3 legged frog/toad is a common character in Chinese culture. In Chinese mythology Liu Hai was a kungfu master who wandered China killing monsters and helping the poor people. One day there was a golden frog monster who was terrorizing the citizens. His name was Jin Chan, which means ‘Golden Toad’. Liu Hai and Jin Chan fought and in the battle Jin Chan lost his leg. After his defeat Jin Chan felt guilty for all the pain and damage he caused and wanted to help people instead. Jin Chan is often seen with a coin in his mouth. He has a special ability to find money. Chinese people believe that Jin Chan will help them be prosperous. These tea pets are smaller than the other frogs. They measures 0.4" tall, 0.7" wide, and .7" long.

I have a yellow toad named Balompié. He sits on the edge of my rinse bowl and sometimes chills in the bottom as I fill up the bowl. I can feel his maker’s thumb contour when I perch him on my own thumb.

Iz cute.

My first teapet is one of these frogs in green. I named him Henry because he just looked like a Henry. I had originally planned on buying a larger tea pet but my tea tray is quite small and so this frog fits quite perfectly on. I’m seriously thinking about getting Henry a friend!

I have a family of these frogs, and I absolutely love them! When Crimson Lotus posted a photo of them on twitter I knew I had to have one…and then a pair…and then five. Yours truly had been hunting a perfect froggy tea pet for quite a while, but since I have limited space, I needed it to be somewhat small, and these guys are perfect. I love that each one has a stamp from the creator (one even has a tiny bit of a finger print) and holes, so if I want to take them on an adventure I can string them on a cord and wear them as a necklace.
