Iced Tea Suggestions and Favorites

I love Green & Fruity from David’s Tea. Great hot, but even better iced. I just follow the iced tea suggestions on the package to brew at double strength and then pour over ice. I would put it in a pitcher but it doesn’t last long. Very refreshing!

I typically brew up a Jasmine green tea or Silver Needles. Add some sugar, a pinch of mint and throw it in the fridge overnight and enjoy cold tea the next day.

Here’s some things I like since I didn’t really name many before. I cold brew them specifically. Rainbow Sherbet from 52teas is awesome, but of course, not readily available. The cherry vanilla cola black tea is good too.

Genmaicha is something different to give a try.

I like to brew DavidsTea’s lime gelato hot and then cold steep those leaves so that I get the yogurt creaminess out of it.

ZenTea’s Oolong Raspberry and Caribbean Breeze Sencha are also two favorites.

I cold brewed some teas this past weekend and I must say, they turned out great! I had trouble finding glass jars so I was wondering if it’s important to store them in glass jars rather than something else and if it makes a difference. Luckily I found a few and left them in the fridge for about 18 hours. It’s an amazing process and produced a really balanced flavor with no bitterness. I think I found my new favorite way to blend iced tea! Thanks for all the suggestions. I will post feedback after trying some different ways of blending iced tea and decide which is officially my favorite.

I think glass is mostly useful as it won’t impart or retain flavour (unlike plastic).

Thanks for the confirmation Uniquity. I really like the taste of cold brewed iced teas thus far but how does it compare to hot brewed tea that is refrigerated afterwards? And are there noticeable differences between adding sugar before refrigerating a hot brewed tea or after it has already been chilled? It would be great to hear some outside opinions and thoughts.

Depending on how much sugar you want to add, it may be impossible to dissolve it in cold tea, but if you’re only adding a small amount it shouldn’t be an issue.

Do you know the pros and cons of hot brewed tea that is chilled vs. cold brewed tea? The hot brewed tea produces a darker liquor and I think the taste is stronger. But most people that responded to this thread suggested cold brewing for iced tea and I was wondering why?

I’m not actually well versed in cold brewing, but my understanding is primarily that different flavors will come to the forefront depending on how it is brewed, so you may get a different experience from a tea you’v’e tried many times.

I think it’s largely a matter of personal preference, though, so try both and see what works for you.

I completely agree that tea is all about personal preference. I just tried some hot brewed peach oolong tea that I chilled in the refrigerator and found it to have a stronger tea flavor over the fruit. The cold brewed peach oolong tea I tried had a great balance of both and a light and sweet taste. I found my preference in the cold brewed tea. Thanks for your suggestions and tips!

We like to try something more unconventional, mixing in some seltzer with our cold brew! The perfect amount of fizzle adds a refreshing twist.

I may have to try this cold brew technique – but where can you buy airtight glass jars from? Would it be really bad just to use a glass teapot with the lid on in the fridge and wait 18 hours?

You could probably use mason jars. The canning jars. I’d think those are pretty close to air tight and they are glass. :D

I’m really excited about our iced tea series this summer. We’re almost done packaging them. (I’ve had some extra help getting them all done. We have eight different teas. They’ll be offered under our Southern Boy Teas brand. Oh, yeah, and they are in teabags!

Thanks for the heads up. Iced tea in bags already sounds super awesome.

Sounds great. I’m usually a loose tea person but tea bags sounds good for when I’m on the go. I like to put them in my water bottle :)
