Blogs and vampire stats

Fellow bloggers – I am sure you have noticed visits from vampire stats and adsense watchdog on your site. They don’t seem to cause any direct problems on a blog but they do artificially crank up the visit stats. Is there a way to block them or is it just a waste of time trying?
