80 Tasting Notes

Vanille Impériale from Mariage Frères

Settling down to a breakfast of french bread and brie I am working on my second pot of this wonderfully scented tea. The aroma is akin to the finest cake frosting. Not so much in the teeth aching sugar dream but in its utterly beautiful vanilla fragrance. The leaves are that sad mix of autumn hues and still birth greens. Together they unfurl marvelously in the pot.

If you are not sold on the brewing, just let the leaves rest and they will impart their scent in such a way you’d believe that elves had been baking in your kitchen all night.

The liquid is a pleasant amber of which I like to spoil with milk. I can safely say it is a gem without. On a lighter note, this tea is very forgiving, at least with me. Upon our first acquaintance I left this darling along for 5 minutes. Horrible I know. However I did not find the brew overly bitter if it was bitter at all. All in all, it was a charming cup.

Cheers!

Happy Memorial Day! And this will be my tea of choice… for a little while at least. I have to pacify my Starbucks cravings while I unwind from duty. Fabulous flavor which ALWAYS fits the bill.

I have tin of this and am not happy with it. It’s a fine tea but not a favorite. Free to good home just drop a line. Thanks

what a beauty. i am smitter with fragrant teas and this one is beautiful. It is scented with Magnolia of all things and having tried a per-uh with the same proclaimed scent, i was a bit fearful. i was overcome. The scent lingers for hours… if you can let tea set for hours… and i can when on watch but then i drink tea cold too. at any rate, i haven’t tried a re-steep to see how far the frangrance lasts but it is pleasing and pronounced. i don’t think it tastes perfumey but it teeters on the edge and that is why i think a re-steep might fair better. No matter, this is yet another enjoyable tea!

Love this! This tea has been a recent companion to my watch standing and post watch breakfasts! It has a wonderful flavor and goes delightfully with milk. i honestly had to order a second set, not just for the cool tattoos, but because there just wasn’t enough of this sea going mate in one can for an ol’ salt like me!
This is a must try and re-try for anybody and everybody who simply wants a good cup of tea. :)

Took this tea on deployment and it was the perfect pick me up after a horrible dinner of under done fish or over baked chicken. Its licorice flavor was charming and yet not over powering and the scent upon first approach is awakening. While i love honey in my tea this one holds the pleasssant ability to do quiet well without.
Well done, Mariage Freres!

Simple, clean and perfect after a day of clearing brush from hiking trails.

Balthazar from Mariage Frères

I forgot how enjoyable this tea can be. Perfect for today… the end of a long trip and it just might off-set my driving cramps. (Earned from a 12 hour drive with no drinking or bathroom breaks. Don’t try it yourself… invest in Astronaut Diapers. LOL)

Brique de thé Pu-Erh du Yunnan (black tea compressé) from Mariage Frères

I picked this up myself but am terrified to open it and enjoy it. LOL One day I will break down and pull this treasure to pieces. Perhaps I will save it for retirement… only 8 years away. Lord.

Will post more later…

Another sample from Ricky, thank you.
Upon my first pokes in the package I failed to realize that the items were in fact labeled. Silly me. Had I noticed I would have pounced on the Yunan first. I have been dying to try a cup of that for months now. No matter Rose won out as I am a sucker for flavored and flowery teas especially when surrounded by unruly men/boys.

First sniff left me wondering if it would be soapy or perfumed and bitter. The fragrance reminded me a bit of these plastic roses I had inherited from my great grandmother and they sat all my childhood life on my vanity. Roses, powder and a most calming black tea earthiness was the combo that assailed my nose. With the addition of water, the fragrance was no different a rich wonderful tea entwined with delicate rose. To me, the scent was pleasant and not overly annoying.

This tea mixes well with dark chocolate hot cocoa mix and if you want to get rid of any annoying odor in those plastic tea mug lids, this tea will do it.

This isn’t the first time I’ve enjoyed this tea. I have a tendancy to enjoy this one while out at sea… which I will being doing with may more of my teas in the future. Sigh.
This is a lovely tea full of fruity floral notes and a wonderful kiss of honey.
We don’t tend to have many fancy honey onboard but we do pack a basket full of honey bears and this tea requires none of the like. It again is pleasant and while it has a softness of character it doesn’t like to be neglected in the cup longer than 30 minutes. Then the tartness of the tanins kick in but by then you should be well on the way to sipping and putting aside your nightly powerpoints. :)
A fine tea to enjoy with company! I would buy this one again… along with Dawn.

I wasn’t sure about this tea when we first met it. The smell some said was like chocolate but I didn’t find it so. I was quite taken back by the smell but then my nose has been a bit off as of late… long hours, stress and a sinus cold, again. However, I gave it a go in the pot-o-wonders and it faired well. It brewed a happy hue and a handsome cup! It has this mouthy mourning breakfast cereal taste which I find quiet pleasing and goes wonderfully with milk (which I am trying to kill off as I am off to sea yet again).

I am afraid this tea will be traveling with be on my next journey… so say farewell to dry land as I take no sissy teas with me! Aaarrgh! :P

The more I drink of this the more I am assured that I honestly enjoy the Aveda version better. The sweet temped bit of chicory is missed in this brew but come summer this is a perfect tea to enjoy well chilled. Perhaps with a hint of lemon and basil? Experiment!

A pleasingly strawberry tea sprinkled with cornflowers. This tea has an interesting after taste that I cant place.
The strawberry reminds me of the strawberry blends you find so often in Teavana not quiet on par with Marco Polo. Its nice… but just nice.

Picked this one up due to the odd list of ingredients and if it fails to sip well, they recommend using it in a good sauce or as a rub. Hell! I am up for that! Waste not want not, right?

Out of the bag it is a confused sort of tea. I smell tea, earth and a vegetal melange dusted over in what looks like rose petals but one website states peony.

Now as a first sip, I have ruined it perhaps. I was so craving a tea for milk and honey and this could be it but the flavors have been adulterated. I get the pepper but not as in “whoa, what the hell!” It’s a pleasant punch along with a tomato or a random drive by veggie. This is a savory tea fit for a rustic loaf and excellent local cheeses!

I like it for it’s oddity and perhaps its predisposed nature to be a tea fated for other and better things, a roast. It isn’t something I would purchase again and might not even be the next tea I reach for when bored. This is a tea that makes me go, “Hummm?”

There is so much to be said about this tea!
First is that it is amazing and second, don’t steep it for the full three minutes. I can safely say two is fine and the flavor is just as poetic.
I have been enjoying this beauty while out at sea and have had numerous compliments on how the scent of this tea while steeping in my little French press has over-powered the space, in a good way. And it is a tea that desires no sugars nor milk and I am a sucker for both. In one brewing I even got whole flowers to watch dance around in the steeping process!

The liquid is a cadmium dark with a hint of ocher (for you painter types) when steeped properly. It never transitions into what I consider a traditional tea brown. The taste? Sweet and floral. I think I get the bergamot and some have said lemongrass too although it is not listed in the notes. And it is safe to say, Historie Tibtaine is a ‘gateway’ tea as it inspired several of my co-workers to purchase tea cups of their own to join me in my Buddha moment. The tea possesses flavours of bergamot, flowers, vanilla and jasmine as per the Urban Merchant Website.

This is the tea I am having tonight. I sat aside a bottle of red wine for you…. I’ll keep you posted if it should sooth the sea weary beast. LOL

Celebration from THE O DOR

I got a sample of this and enjoyed it for Easter. I am undecided on this tea and doubt I will make a full purchase of this. If you enjoy Florence, you might enjoy a trip around the tea cosey with this.
I fear I am not a friend to chocolate scented teas.

My mother enjoyed it quiet a bit and even commented on its lovely aroma. I found the taste improved as it cooled. But on the whole this was not for me.
C’est la vie.
