It smells as promised, spicy hot chocolate. But from my experience, if you want hot chocolate, you drink hot chocolate. (Of course I know not everybody can, and this yogi tea is not a bad substitute, but still.)
The important part of the name, is “aztec spice” rather than “choco”. The taste is spoiled for me by the cinammon and liquorice – which I don’t like when infused, and they’re taking over the cacao notes here. It feels like a light, light version of a chai tea, without the tea, and with a bit of chocolate. Without the name “choco”, it’s actually nice to drink :)
I wouldn’t have the idea of adding milk/sugar to a tisane, but now that I read other comments, I’ll definitely try.
Preparation
Mixed this 50-50 with Celestial Seasonings’ Madarin Orange Spice tonight, and I like it a lot better this way. The anise taste is still there, especially on the back end, but it’s not the only thing going on anymore. The orange comes through very well in the aroma and beginning of a sip. I’m not going to adjust the rating, but I’d give this particular blend at least a 50.
Preparation
Ugh. I’m drinking this because I have a sore throat tonight, and it’s the only throat tea in my cupboard, apparently. I don’t think I realized, when I bought a full box, that it tastes much more licorice-y than Traditional Medicinals :( almost undrinkably so, for me. Almost, but not quite, when my throat hurts.
It’s effective, and sweet, so if you don’t mind fennel or anise it’s a great choice. I, on the other hand, might need to give the rest of the box away so I have an excuse to buy TM’s instead…
Preparation
If Constant Comment had a baby with a chocolate tea, it would be Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut. I didn’t taste vanilla or hazelnut at all, but cocoa and clove were very prominent. I usually prefer to drink spiced teas in the winter; maybe I’ll like it better then.
Preparation
Thanks to Lisbet for the sample! (I know I rated it badly, but I do like getting to try new teas)
(Backlogging) I wanted to like this, I really did :( It’s sweet, and cinnamony, but I just couldn’t get past the anise. I’m a licorice hater. I really couldn’t drink this hot, so I put it in the frige overnight and tried it cold with lots of milk the next day. That was… drinkable, so if you only have a mild anise dislike, cold+cream might work for you. The rooibos is detectable, and a perfectly good base for this blend.
Anyway, between anise, my distaste for chicory, and the fact that my mother only drank herbal teas when I was a child, there’s good reason that I thought for years I didn’t like tea!
Preparation
Yogi is way too licorice happy…I thnk I have yet to try one I really liked; there’s a cocoa spice that isn’t too bad.
I’m not a fan of Yogi Teas in general. Yes, I know tea is healthy, but I drink it for the taste and not the health benefits. Most of the samples I’ve tried of their teas have been, to put it nicely, unpalatable. It’s like you can taste the fact that it’s marketed to be a supplement.
I saw this tea at a holistic foods store in South Carolina. It sounded so good that I had to get and try it, despite my past history with Yogi.
To my surprise, it’s really good. Yes, it still has a slight “supplement” taste, but there’s definitely apple in there, and spices that remind me of Aztec hot chocolate. This is my last bag, sadly. If I see it again, I’ll probably buy more.
Preparation
My sister sent this to me (because wow, do I need some stress relief right now), and I wasn’t sure what to expect. When I read the ingredients I was pretty leery, because I really don’t like licorice or ginger, but the carob pod saved it for me. I was pleasantly surprised that it was tolerable, and maybe even okay. I sure wouldn’t drink this for the taste, and I didn’t notice any particular effect that it had on my mood/stomach ache, but I’ll try it again for sure.
Preparation
Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me an envelope of this tea.
This is a very interesting spice blend – The chili offers some spice but the chocolate and anise counteract it just enough to make it not spicy – it is actually SWEET. A nice, licorice-y flavor to it, but I think that the licorice flavor sort of overwhelms the cup just a little bit, making this a licorice tasting tea, not a chocolate-y spice flavored tea that I anticipated it to be… not that it’s bad, just not quite what I expected it to be, and I am a little disappointed there.
But I am really glad I got to try it.
Preparation
this tea was good the first time it’s not setting well with me at all i don’t know why it tastes like licorice and i just can not stand that taste. I’ll try it another time to see if the staste changes any when i think i can stand the taste again
Preparation
this tea saved me it was relaxing to me when I was pregnant. and i still have it in my cupboard to enjoy once and a while i haven’t had many of the yogi teas but they seem to be enjoyable to me. once i have a cup i will tell you more of what i taste in it.. TBC
Preparation
:( This didn’t work. Go figure! Not only that but I was a bit put off by the peppermint taste. (I know peppermint is supposed to help with stomach issues, but it didn’t.) I will not be repurchasing this tea.
Preparation
I truly wanted to like this tea – after all I love cocoa and spice.
BUT – and this is a WARNING for fellow migraine sufferers – this blend gave me a headache within a few minutes of the first sip! And it didn’t even taste that great, so it wasn’t worth the pain.
The cocoa flavor was far too weak for me, and the spices seemed…off. Not as fragrant and not the spices I would have blended with cocoa (like perhaps more cinnamon instead). Overall, I’m not happy about this purchase. I donated the bags to my office.
