Advice on shipping to Canada ?
I am wondering as an American, what tea companies in Canada are have real
nice teas and offer wonderful gifts and affordable shipping?
I found that buying here and shipping there…well, it is outrageous expensive.
Not that I would not repeat the experience, I am getting some samples together
now to send to a friend in Canada. But, if I really wanted a nice gift, but not have to pay postage twice and stuff….what Tea Spots in Canada will blow your mind?
If you ship via 1st class it’s really not too bad. I’ve sent samples and books to tea friends all over Canada and that has been the least expensive way. Flat rate at the Post Office is a bit of a rip off.
There are definitely lots of Canadian retailers though. David’s Tea and Camelia Sinensis are the first two that come to mind.
Are you looking for Canadian tea companies to ship within Canada? (to tea friends?) Or are you looking to ship to the US?
I think if you are looking within Canada the prices vary depending on how far it is shipping within Canada (i.e., same province is cheaper than across the country). Shipping across the country might end up being similar to shipping to the US.
Sometimes it’s actually cheaper for us Canadians to ship to the states than it is to ship across Canada. For example, I recently sent a swap from Saskatchewan to Quebec and one to New Hampshire. The one that went to the states was half as much as the one to Quebec.
Wow! Cavocorax~
I guess that means I am looking for Canadian Tea Companies to ship within Canada, but
Thanks for the heads up :-)
http://herbalinfusions.ca/ has $5 flat rate shipping accross Canada and to the US. That is among the lowest I’ve seen, but I haven’t had the chance to sample their teas or place an order yet. Maybe someone else has and can tell you about the quality.
The do seem to have a nice selection of teas so I’ll likely place an order with them during the Black Friday flash sale they mentioned on twitter the other day.
capital tea ltd
davids tea
camelia sinesis
herbal infusions
murchies
tea emporium
majesteas
bayswater tea company
tao leaf tea
silk road tea
Tealux
le the kiosk
Just a few off the top of my head (though not all of those are knock your socks off imo). I guess in part it depends on whether you’re looking for flavoured or unflavoured teas..
Thanks Sil,
Will ANY of them knock your socks off?
I know many like David’s Teas, but would like a couple of alternatives :-)
Are you looking for unflavoured or flavoured options? Is your friend in central canada? East? or West? :) Send me a PM and i can put some thoughts down about some other companies today/tomorrow
I would add to this…
Assam Tea Company
JusTea
LuxBerry
Tea Desire
Also, they could do what I’m doing now with the more expensive shipping situations to Canada – if they’re close to a border crossing. There are companies who charge a small amount to create a mailbox of sorts at the border crossing, and you just send the items there. Then the person goes across the border to pick them up, and since tea is considered a food product, it’s a quick trip over and back if need be.
MIssB no no no no don’t tell me about more companies i might need to check out hahahaha never heard of luxberry or assam tea co. heh
Hee hee, I aim to please!
Ordered from LuxBerry a few weeks back. Cute packaging, mostly blends and interesting ones at that. Assam is just a warehouse a block or so from Royal Oak Station in Burnaby, and they only let you buy online (flat $3.95 shipping in Canada). HUGE selection, with almost everything available in sample sizes. I know, I know, I should stop now…
No, thanks for that….may need to look into them both…ESP Assam tea since the BBB ladies may like that. I’ll drop you a pm if I get around to an order and see what you like/ would’ recommend.
“flat $3.95 shipping in Canada). HUGE selection, with almost everything available in sample sizes”
UUUUGGGGgggggggg – I think 200 may not be the top of my comfort zone….
Assam tea co is on my list to try, since it’s in my ‘hood. Apparently they won’t do pickup orders tho?
Assam’s website says pickups are okay, just send them an email. So I did right after I ordered. Two business days later I received a response. Essentially, “Sorry, it’s already been sent over to get shipped.” Two business days after THAT, my order was shipped. It went to Richmond, then came back to my place a day later, a mere 7 minute walk from their establishment. Perhaps if you email them first? I’m still confused.
So far everything I’ve tried from them (all sample sizes) has been decent, with a few in the delicious range. I’d be happy to send some to anyone who wants to try something out. Sil, feel free if/when you’re ready.
Yea Dexter, you’re telling me. I’m busting out at 260 right now. Zero complaints though. Writing takes sustenance, and that’s tea for me!
I’ve been thinking about trying this etsy store
