Caramel Salted Butter Oolong

GCTTB Round 5 V2.0

Opening the sample package releases a burst of caramel scent. I used ~1.5 tbsp with 500ml water steeped for 5 minutes . From what I can tell this is a medium roast oolong with caramel cubes added and white (possibly sugar) butterflies. The smell reminds me of the caramel matcha I tried from red leaf tea but the taste is obviously quite different.

The caramel and oolong notes compliment each other nicely for a mild mannered slightly sweet cup. If one pays attention it’s possible to pick out the base oolong – I would actually recommend brewing this one for 3 minutes instead of 5 as I got some astringency from it. As it cools the oolong comes forward a bit more but I could still taste the subtle caramel addition.

I got a sample of this in the GCTTB 2.0 with fair warning that it was a little old. In my opinion it’s still a very nice tea with a smooth, light oolong base and sweet caramel flavours. I ate some homemade matcha shortbread with my cuppa tea and that really made the flavour pop. I’ll have to keep an eye out for this tea in stores so I can snag a fresh(er) canister.

Thank you Sil for sharing! This certainly did not disappoint. First of all, the little butterflies in the dry blend were adorable but more than that, this tea is delicious! This is so soft and creamy with just the right amount of buttery caramel deliciousness (think the soft, chewy caramels you get as a kid). Even the oolong base, which normally is not a favourite of mine, gives enough floral roastiness to heighten everything while not taking over the cup. It really is awesome and I am grateful for the chance to finally get to try such a beloved tea, even if it’s not the beloved caramel salted butter oolong. Thank you, Sil!

This is delicious, it is a creamy buttery oolong with notes of caramel. It is very smooth and slightly sweet.

The package states that it is aging so I can only imagine how delicious it is when it is fresh! If I ever put in an order here, this would definitely be on the list!

The resteep was enjoyable, with less creamy caramel.

Caramel. Ooolong. Heaven.
The pairing of flavours leaves a lovely fresh mineral note and something akin to apples, but more like a spritz of apple than a mouthful. The caramel aftertaste is lovely, I am in serious lust!!!

Um…. yes. Very yes. Maybe not quite as tasty as I was hoping, but it’s pretty darn good. Excited to compare it to the other version, which I believe Sil prefers.

Without being sweet, it is very… sweet, and full, and tastes rather like a salted caramel. The oolong base is not overly noticeable, though this would be a significantly different tea without it, I’m sure. I can see myself getting a bit tired of this though, because it is very rich. Definitely will have to treat it as a “treat” tea.

oh man. MissB sent this one our way in the latest batch of teas from europe. It smells divine! I think the girls may need to twist my arm to get my to share this one as it’s fairly close to the one from DF that i want more of… seriously creamy, delicious, caramel, buttery oolong yummy.
