15 Tasting Notes

Japanese Cherry from Tea Palace
42

Any green tea flavour is annihilated by the overpowering artificial cherry. Quite like diluted cherry essence for baking. Extraordinarily pungent. Not great.

Oolong Orange Blossom from Tea Palace
76

Warm, mild and very smokey. Slightly astringent. Altogether pleasant.

White Monkey from Tea Palace
91
Lemon Shimmer from Tea Palace
19

Astringent with a chemical lemon taste. Bitter aftertaste after 3 minute steep.

Angel Peach from Tea Palace
92

Mellow, fruity, refreshing and addictive green tea.

I’m not really a green tea person, but I’ve been trying recently to “get” the appeal of green. This has certainly helped.

Jasmine Silver Needles from Tea Palace

The first jasmine tea I’ve tried. It is also the last.

The one good thing about getting this tea was discovering I really, really, really don’t like Jasmine.

At least I know to avoid it in the future.

Not rating it since my dislike of jasmine is hardly a factor in whether or not this is a good jasmine tea.

This won’t discourage me from blindly buying teas online though.

Blueberry & Apple from Twinings

Formosa Oolong from Tea Palace
89

This is a very good oolong. The taste is deep and rich with only one teaspoon in the pot. It is also delightfully sweet, despite being an unflavoured variety. Not at all bitter.

Green Tea with Citrus from Lipton
78

I’m rating this as the soft-drink that it is. As a soft-drink, this is great. Very refreshing.

Oolong (Loose) from Whittard of Chelsea
59

Decent oolong. Surprisingly resilient to over-steeping (one of my bad habits).

Earl Grey (loose leaf) from Twinings
95

This is the tea I probably drink more than any other. I’ve tried other Earl Grey teas but none really come close.

2 sugars with lemon or just lemon depending on my mood.

Ripe Mango Oolong from Lupicia
86

Tastes good. Smells better. Would make great potpourri if it weren’t so expensive and difficult to get in this country. Very pleasant to drink.

Momo Oolong Super Grade from Lupicia
91

This is by far the most pleasant smelling fruit tea I’ve come across to date. The taste, while not living up to the aroma, is very enjoyable. I use more of this tea than my standard oolong to get the same richness of flavour, which is a problem when you are using tea this expensive and difficult to come by here in Europe (I picked up my last batch in Kobe last year and I’m running out!).

Earl Grey from Lupicia
49

Too much bergamot (typical of Japanese Earl Grey in my experience). Otherwise, not wholly unpleasant.
