Thank you so much! I will survive rural life just fine with all of these tea suggestions. :)

If you’re not careful you’ll end up with eleventy bazillion types of tea like some of us. Beware of sample swapping. ;) (Actually it’s super fun, just that I have about 100 samples still!)

Sample swapping is the best! You get to try lots of new things that you might not otherwise buy in quantity, and without a huge financial investment :D

LOL! Anlina, it’s the best until you’re like, “OMG how did my cupboard get to be 280?! Surely I didn’t buy THAT much tea! OMG, they’re mostly sample? AHH!!”

It’s true. Though knowing that a lot of stuff is just one or two cups away from a sipdown makes me feel better about my ridiculously huge cupboard. Actually, the vast majority of the stuff I have is 10g or less, but even small samples do pile up faaast.

LOL this is what I thought too until I made my spread sheet and weighed all my teas. Those samples add up fast.
But I agree – swapping is a great way to try before you buy, learn your tastes, see what companies you like, etc. Excellent way to explore without too much cash outlay. The underlying warning is that it’s addictive and it’s easy to end up with 300 teas in your cupboard. :))

I should really do a spreadsheet with weights, though it sounds like a pain to keep updated. And I’m a little afraid to know how much tea I actually have by weight lol.

I was very afraid too – but I had no idea until I did it. What I’ve found that works for me – I put weights down to zero when I finish a tea, but I don’t adjust weight every time I drink a tea. I go through my cupboard and double check accuracy and re weigh everything only every 3 months or so. That way you see some progress as you do sip downs, but when you update you really see the drastic jumps. It helps keep me sort of on track – or at least trending in the right direction…. :))

You are SO amazing, Dex. That is some serious tea dedication!

I think I’ll stick with the non-precise method of piling tea in and if the cupboard doesn’t fall off of the wall I’ll call it good. :) Weighing would be far too scary.

Dexter said

LOL that’s funny Nicole – like I said below, everyone has to find a method that works for them – yours sounds as good as any. :))
(My tea no longer fit in the cupboard, so move to china cabinet, started to overflow there, so I knew I needed to get a grip on the situation…)

I need to start using that awesome spreadsheet Dexter sent me. Thanks again Dex!

It was nothing, I just emailed it to you. Use it or toss it – everyone has to find what works for them. That sheet works for me. :)
