David's Tea Tea Pops with Sodastream

I was wondering if anyone knows what soda stream they use? I know the prices are different…. and I was wondering if that would matter. I’m a very picky person when it comes to drinking water, so an iced tea for me is too watered down, but I had some of their Tea Pops and really enjoyed them. I’ve tried making my own with san pellegreno but it just isn’t the same. So I’ve been looking in to getting a soda stream.

I used to work at David’s and I believe this is the model we had:

It’s pretty simple. Just brew a tea concentrate and then add the carbonated water to it. I work at Teavana now and we put the brewed tea into an actual commercial carbonator machine. I like the effect much better.

I have the cheapest sodastream and have used it to make yummy teapop.just use freshly carbonated water and you’re set. I believe all the sodastreams result in the same capacity for carbonation so the only variable is how much you carbonate it. The strength of the tea is a separate variable that you control. :)

Also you have to make the tea concentrate really strong. That is the key.

If you haven’t bought one yet, I use the Jet model, this one: http://www.amazon.com/SodaStream-Fountain-Maker-Starter-Silver/dp/B00EPEALEM/

Technically it’s an older model, but it holds the larger capacity CO2 container so you don’t have to go replace the canister as often. If you’re willing to do the legwork to save some money, you can also get it at Staples or Bed Bath and Beyond for even less I believe, and they’re always sending out coupons. Staples especially since they’ve started advertising school supplies already.

I used mine ALOT and it’s still going strong after 4 years. I have it hacked with a paintball canister and the CO2doctor thread adapter. You can also control the level of carbonation depending on how many times you ‘pump’ the button.

BUT, if you’re looking for a low cost investment and don’t see yourself using it alot, a soda siphon might be a better option for you. I saw Fizztini on Amazon and it’s a cute updated version of a soda siphon.

That’s the kind I have! We just bought it a few months ago though, at Walmart on sale for…$60 CAD, I think. We’ve refilled the CO2 twice so far. We prefer things heavily carbonated so it definitely doesn’t last 60 litres but it’s not too bad. It’s more expensive for us than it would have been otherwise (as we didn’t really buy/drink pop or carbonated water before) but we both really enjoy making sparkling water or drinks. My cat hates it though. :)

Haha, my cat doesn’t seem to mind it. If you use it alot, it might be more cost effective to hack it. For the cost of a few refills I modified mine and I would say that it’s well worth it.

She likes to drink our water (yes, we’re disgusting). When she goes in for a slurp and gets carbonation on her nose she gets grumpy!
