Your own custom made Jianshui purple clay teapot with personal engraving - Orders close October 1st

Don’t have time to learn Mandarin in order to communicate with potters in China yourself? Don’t want to spring for a plane ticket to Yunnan in order to find a reliable studio? Let us do the work for you.

We’re offering a unique opportunity to have a teapot made just for you by our studio in Jianshui. You choose the shape, size, colour of clay, and specify the location and style of a small engraving of your choice. Then wait up to 1 month to start enjoying a teapot that was made just for you in Jianshui.

I will note that choice of size and shape are dependent on each other. We wanted to offer possible combinations that we know can reliably be made, based on the specs they already work with. Sizes are also offered based on possible ranges, as it’s impossible to predict the amount of shrinkage before firing zitao pieces. We’ve been working very closely with this studio for a while and visited many time though, so we’re quite confident in their craftsmanship.

The rest of the details are included in the link below, but we will be closing orders by October 1st so that they can be thrown and fired by the end of the month, leaving plenty of time to get them into people’s hands by the holidays (hint hint).

Any questions or clarification are welcome too. For some aspects there may be more flexibility, so it doesn’t hurt to ask!

Oh, and we have some custom cups available too. There are options for ruyao (4 shapes, crackle and craze) or watercolour glaze. No closing date for those though, so no rush. They can be personalized with up to 8 characters written on the bottom. Should be easy to find the listing in our shop.

I don’t see a place to choose the letters you want engraved?

It can be included in the notes when placing an order, otherwise we’ll follow up once the order is received to confirm.

As for the shipping options, there is no difference. Everything is sent via air (epacket), but orders over $100 qualify for free shipping.

On my last order I chose the $12.95 option for shipping thinking it was faster? Can I get a shipping refund?

Just saw that as well while preparing your orders today. Will refund the shipping in a moment!

What is the difference between the free shipping option and the $12.95 flat rate option?

Ok, I just ordered two of these teapots. Can you engrave them with the Chinese characters for sheng puerh tea and shou puerh tea respectively. I want the shui ping to say sheng puerh tea in Chinese, and the half moon to say shou puerh tea in Chinese.

currently “sold out”…was there a limit on the number of orders? will this be available again?

AllanK said

It was only available until the 1st of the month, I think China time which was yesterday. I would send them an email and see if they can still take an order.

Allan’s correct – it’s labelled “sold out” for lack of a better label, but we closed the orders on October 1st. We haven’t sent them yet, so if you’re interested just PM or email us.
