Dammann Freres group buy 2016 - closed
Hello all,
Shipping from DF seems reasonable, but the 100g starting amount for loose leaf may be a bar to those who are not sure they’ll love the teas on offer.
If we can split some packages in a group buy, we open up the possibility of trying DF teas for those who would not otherwise take the chance.
Shamelessly copied from prior group buy:
They sell in 100g sizes, so if there are people who want to spilt them, let’s please keep it to 25g increments. Additionally, if you really want a tea and would be happy getting 50g instead of nothing, please note that too (in case no one else wants the same tea you do.
So it might look something like:
Zennenn:
Noel de Provence, 25g, 50g (if you really don’t want more than half, and if no one else wants this one, don’t order it)
Charlotte aux Fruits, 25g, 50g, 100g (if you are ok with any of the quantities and absolutely want it even if no one else wants to split it)
So far we have:
Zennenn
Tea-sipper
Greenteafairy
Arby Robillard
Patricia
Zack S
Inkay
LuckyMe
VariaTEA
KitTeaLover
QueenofTarts
Anyone else interested? Later today I’ll post what I was thinking of ordering to see if anyone else would like those teas too.
I may not be a known quantity to coordinate the group buy, so if there is greater comfort with another person acting as coordinator, that is absolutely fine with me!

I’m interested. I really liked how Marzipan organized the last group order.

I already have a list of 7 teas I would like to order from Dammann.
There are plenty of teas I’d be willing to help anyone out with 25-50 grams of. The only thing I’d request is that they are packaged in nice resealable packaging. Something like these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-3-5×5-Ziplock-Stand-Up-Pouches-Bags-SUP-AA-Clear-Silver-/310658911232?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4854b6cc00
Zennenn, I also use blank labels to hand write labels for the teas, like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004Z5SM/ref=pe_825000_114212990_pe_635370_88603980_n_id
Not sure if LP has labels in stock!
There are a ton I’d like to try, obviously I don’t expect all of these! This is just to give everyone an idea. Mostly, I’d like to try some of the fig, plum, date, rhubarb teas. Also, I’d like to try a couple of Earls (especially any without orange peel), one of them definitely being EARL GREY DES SEIGNEURS (will definitely go 50grams or more on that, if not 25grams). I’d also like to try one of the Pecan Pies. I wish it would say what types of tea the black tea blends are made from, because I’d like to avoid Ceylon.

It depends—I’m more concerned with keeping my total spend reasonable than with how much of each individual tea, but I’d probably want 25-50g of most of them. I’d possibly take 100g of a couple, but I haven’t worked out which yet.
I’m interested!! I was literally thinking the other day that I wish there were another DF group buy like the one Marzipan did. How are you deciding what teas will be bought? I recall Marzipan kind of just let people say what tea they’d be interested in, and what is the minimum/maximum they’d be ok with receiving. For example, Id say “I’m interested in 25-50g of Violet”. Which means that, in order for Violet to be purchased, the remaining 50g would need to have takers. It also meant that I’d be ok with only receiving 25g, if say 3 other people wanted 25g each. She somehow listed that info in a spreadsheet, which allowed another member to see that I was interested in Violet, and showed how many ‘slots’ (25g per slot) were accounted for, and how many were empty and needed filling. It was very well done. Perhaps ask Marzipan for the spreadsheet or how she did it? Or see if her (or LiquidProust) are interested in organizing, since they have done great before.
Glad you want to join in! Patricia mentioned the same and I’m trying to recreate the spreadsheet. It was deleted so I can’t see all of it. I’ll see if I can reach LP or Marzipan to see if they’re interested. What teas and how much would you be interested in?
I’m not sure how you want to split up each 100g tea. Last time we did it in 25g splits, with some individuals being interested in more than 25g of certain teas. Here is my list of teas… It’s large so I don’t expect there to be interest for all of them, but hopefully it can get things rolling!

Hi Zack S. – I hope I entered everything for you as you wanted. Please double check me – I assumed that the * meant you wanted 100g. Let me know of any changes you need me to make – happy to do it.
I just wanted to chime in that I am interested. Working on putting a list together today!
Props to whoever takes this on. Splitting these up into 25g portions for a decent order can become a nightmare. I can help with any labels, packaging, or logistics… Beyond that, the Sheng Olypiad is going to eat up all my time.
Thank you! Yes, I think it will be a challenge to evenly distribute ingredients between bags when breaking down the packages. I’m happy to do it if someone else doesn’t have capacity.
Grab a scale from ebay, if you don’t already have one. Any .1 gram scale, or .01 gram scale is fine.. I think they’re like $10. Pretty handy; you can set a bag upright on the scale and hit ‘Tare’ to reset the reading to 0, then fill the bag until the scale reads 25g. It is helpful beyond just dividing tea evenly… I use one daily to get consistent results from steeps, especially from larger leaf teas like whites (and some blacks) where measuring a single tsp just isn’t gonna come out right all of the time. Honestly, a must-have item in my opinion. Geez I sound like a salesman lol
I have a scale, Zack S – it goes to the gram, so I should be good with weights. If a tea had several ingredients, both large and small, it would be possible to have 4 bags at 25g each that contain very different proportions of the various ingredients, thereby yielding varying cups of tea. I will be using more than weight to guide me, I’ll attempt to evenly distribute the various visible ingredients too.
If you’re aware that the ingredients need to be distributed evenly enough (like not all of the fruit pieces in one pouch), then I think you’ll do fine. :D
Don’t want sub-par tea! I’m not going to resort to counting the pieces, though. Maybe. ;)

Here’s a copy I made of the original file, can you see it properly now?
Noël à Prague 100g
Noël à Venise 25g, 50g
Tisane nougat 25g, 50g
Charlotte au chocolat 25g, 50g
Mélange des chérubins 25g
Thé de la cathédrale 25g
Coquelicot gourmand 25g, 50g, 75g, 100g
I can’t really organize the order since I live in Canada…
(my username was mmlemonade in the previous order, by the way)
No problem :) ! Your file looks good too. I wasn’t sure what "LL’ meant but now I see it means loose leaf.
The Tisane de Nougat is sold out right now. Hopefully it is back in time for our order.
Oh! Ok. No worries if we can’t order it.
By the way, I’d like to fill in the last spots of 25g for Noël à Saint-Petersbourg and Rooibos Pecan pie.
