Coffee Replacements

Are you or someone you know a current or former coffee drinker? What tea have you or they found to give you your coffee fix?

I haven’t tried it yet, but Man Teas has coffee tea http://manteas.com/coffee-tea which isn’t actually a tea, but a rooibos tisane- great for those who want to not only cut the coffee, but the caffeine habit as well.

For those looking for a true tea coffee replacement, there’s my favorite- Dr. Tea’s Coffee Oolong. (currently on sale for $9.99 for a small container, regularly $20- and it used to be $30!) http://steepster.com/teas/dr-teas-tea-garden/6601-coffee-oolong This flavored tea is unique in that, while there is fresh essence of vanilla and vanilla blossoms in it, the coffee flavor actually comes from the roasting process- not the addition of coffee beans or flavoring.

Another option is Cafe Latte from the Tea Table. http://steepster.com/teas/the-tea-table/1071-cafe-latte A word of warning, this coffee flavored black tea contains real coffee beans and dairy. This is a slightly different experience in that it contains chocolate making it richer and more decadent. Add milk or creamer to convert the habitual mocha drinker.

For caffeine kick I usually drink Irish Breakfast with milk. If you’re going for flavor, Lupicia’s Caramel Macchiato http://www.lupiciausa.com/product_p/12405545.htm or Puer Cafe http://www.lupiciausa.com/product_p/12405570.htm is coffee flavored, but contains some coffee beans.

I have yet to try this, but it looks like it’d be a good alternative.

Somebody brought a package of this to work in the summer so I tried it a few times. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s very good. I definitely recommend it to coffee drinkers looking to try something new.

I’m trying some of Lupicia’s orzo, and though they’re not exactly coffee flavored, something reminds me of light to medium roast coffee. Their orzo honey & caramel is currently my night time tea because it’s caffeine free (another reason it’s not exactly a coffee replacement); it smells amazing.

I love coffee, just not as much as tea. I keep my coffee and tea lives separate – they don’t mix well. I have my own espresso machine and love making lattes, it’s a great breakfast drink with some substance.

I’ve never really had the desire to get something like a coffee fix from tea or vice versa. I guess you might say a cooked puer is similar to a thick coffee in terms of the smoothness and texture, but mostly different otherwise. Mate added to a black tea might do it for some, I guess. I do love making gongfu tea and adding it to steamed milk to make a tea latte, but that gives me a hell of a kick. Like, I stayed up all night once after doing that in the evening.

I love both coffee and tea, but I don’t see myself ever abandoning coffee completely for the tea “wannabe coffees.” Teavana’s Maté-vana is very similar to a fruity mocha, with bits of chocolate and floral notes. I also enjoy Pu-Erhs for the same reason I enjoy certain dark coffee roasts – they’re distinctive and earthy. There’s a Pu-Erh Special Grade I ordered this week from TeaSource, has hints of spice.
Rooibos vanilla/bourbon is a close third on my “wannabe coffee” list, and there are lots of places that offer decent versions of it.

I’m not so much a latté fan as I used to be (despite the moniker) – I’m learning to enjoy my beverages without the dairy and figuring out that I’m not missing much. But when the holidays come ‘round, I usually succomb to the chain cafés’ pumpkin and egg nog concoctions :).

We both suggested MateVana at the very same time.

MateVana is a really great coffee replacement, in my opinion.

I really liked the Aquarius blend from Adagio…it has vanilla oolong, hazelnut, and irish breakfast tea, and reminded me of vanilla and hazelnut coffee :) I’m guessing that hazelnut black tea from Adagio also has that coffee-like feeling…

Celestial Seasonings Roastaroma isn’t a bad decaf substitute.
