From Bitterleaf Teas

Made from the same left-to-grow (fangyang) material as our Year of the Tiger Yiwu raw puer, this tea produces a surprisingly full feeling in the mouth and milky quality that is often common in higher end wulongs.

In terms of fragrance, there is a pleasant wildflower scent up front, with an apply pie fragrance taking over and lingering in the mouth and back of the throat.

For a more in-depth description of the environment where this tea comes from, you can read more here, as well as pick up both the raw puer and white tea versions of this tea in order to compare the same material with different processing.

This year’s wrapper features artwork by Toronto based artist 1%Talent. Be sure to check him out on Instagram, TikTok and pick something out for yourself from his shop here.

Lovely white tea – I found it very creamy and it had a nice thick texture, almost like a green oolong. Flavor-wise, nothing really stood out to me, just the usual suspects of hay, oats, and dry autumn leaves. A subtle sweetness and maybe a hint of pollen. The description mentions wildflower and I could see that, definitely not getting “apply pie” though ha ha.

Really enjoyed sipping this one in the afternoon, very cozy and satisfying while having a mellow, relaxing flavor. :)

Gongfu!

Enjoyed a session of this (thanks to a gentle nudge from my friend theoolongdrunk) while playing Pokémon this past weekend! The YOT sheng and black tea this year were so good that it’s almost unfair to expect this tea to compete, but it does a pretty good job giving them a run for their money. What strikes me most is how surprisingly milky and floral this white tea is – really the only thing that comes to mind is this idea of richly pink whole rosebuds dipped in fresh cream. It’s a solid vibe.

I spent most of the weekend drinking tea and playing Pokemon Violet – after a few hours of grinding I finally have my final team for the rest of my play through. Anyone else playing??
