2007 Purple Leaf Pu-erh Tea Cake

Pu-erh Tea by PuerhShop.com

Yunnan Pu-erh Tea Cake (Large Purple Leaf )
Nickname: Black Gold

This cake is made of the purple large leaves from ancient arbor tea trees over 500 years in Mengku Shuanjiang area. The naturally organic tea leaves are plucked, panned and kneaded, sun-dried in an open field, and then steamed, finally compressed into a fine tea cake all by hand. This cake has excellent aging potential, but can also be drunk right away.

Large loose leaves, very mild flavor, nice floral scent, yellow amber cup and no bitterness. Steeped gongfu: 10 sec rinse, 1st steep 20 sec, then 30, etc. Seems bland but I might need to alter the timings.
It’s not bad but I’m undecided about this tea.

I found this cake stored away in the back of a closet recently. With longer steep times it has a slightly stronger scent with a hint of smoke, decidedly amber color, but the flavor is still mild and there is little mouth feel. It’s not bad, just bland and I can’t see bothering to brew it again.
