Mate Lemon Blast

Yerba maté Tea by Teavana

An energizing blend of Yerba Mate with lemongrass, rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. This tea contains about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, but won’t cause the jitteriness or addictive tendencies because it includes other natural xanthines as well as caffeine.

Mate teas are also a natural appetite suppressant for those looking to lose weight.

As seen on The Today Show.

How to Prepare
Use 1.5 teaspoons of tea per 8oz of water. Heat water to 208 degrees and steep tea for 5-6 minutes. 2oz of tea equals 25-30 teaspoons.

Ingredients:
Green mate leaves and lemongrass.

This tea blends well with:
Raspberry Sangria Herbal Tea

Well since Ocean of Tea has pretty much closed up shop, I was on the search for another lemon maté blend to get me going in the morning. As soon as I opened the bag, the fresh grassy smell of green yerba mate hit my nose, and I was in love. The smell is amazing. It’s like fresh cut grass mixed with morning dew. Sweet and vegetal, with a faint brightness from the lemongrass. I brewed up a cup, and I definitely got more mate flavor than lemon. Ocean of Tea’s Lemon Maté Delight had pieces of lemon zest in it, so the smell and flavour was akin to a lemon Life-Saver. This was a different riff on that, and pleasantly delightful. I’m looking forward to drinking more of this!

Just needed something quick in the morning to kinda wake me up and get me started. With the xanthines in this tea, it was just the thing I needed. And with the nice energy boost from this, I won’t be feeling left jittery or cracked out later on.

This tea has a nice sort of vegetal/earthy taste, almost reminds me of a weak green tea. The lemongrass is a nice addition to this, gives it a nice subtle lemon flavoring. I don’t really notice any bitterness to it which apparently happens with a hand full of yerba mate teas.

This is a softer side of mate. If you’re not a fan of the raw yerba mate this is a perfect blend. I picked this up about a month ago and have really been enjoying it. I’m sad they’re going to discontinue it though.

So my husband gave me the look that means “Friday is video game night… quit goofing off in the kitchen!” I knew I had to make something to take with me upstairs and those GM samplers are just too small.

I mixed up a mug that was half Teavana’s Mate Lemon Blast and half Teavana’s Raspberry Riot Lemon Mate.

I believe next time I try this I’ll decrease the amount of Lemon Blast, since the smoky mate flavor is still coming through (it’s present in the LB but not in the Raspberry Riot, that I’ve noticed).

The blend does tone down the tartness of the RR, which is a nice change. Sometimes I like the tart, but some days I’m just not up for it.

Lighter than I thought it would be, and very refreshing. I’m going to try to mix this one with some things later.

1.5 tsp. water 208F steep for 5 minutes. I like to let it cool to room temp and then refrigerate as an iced tea.

When I woke up this morning and realized I was out of melitta filters I figured it was a sign for this to be a tea day. Digging through my stash I looked for something I hadn’t drank in a while. I really like this tea, though I prefer it iced with a splash of cranberry juice. The snow outside is making me want hot beverages though. ;)

After all the Christmas sweets, I really wanted something tart but strong enough to give me a good buzz. Thank you lemon mate.
