Such nostalgia. Had for the first time maybe 11 years ago now.

Takes some care in brewing it right to the strength I want, but when I do, it’s golden, especially with a dash of milk.

So hard trying to find other black teas which use real vanilla.

Instant repurchase if this ever comes back in stock!

Deep malty bread with bergamot leaving a light dusting of cocoa powder over the tongue.
Brewed extra strong with a dash of milk, it was smooth, thick and heavenly.

This was my 3rd purchase of this tea. I had intended to get 50g but thought, there are so many teas to try, I’ll just get a smaller amount again.

But no, next time, it’s a 50g purchase for sure.

I used the last of this to make a Oolong Iced Milk Tea.. dear lord it was good. Just gotta brew it stronger than usual and add a tiny bit of sugar (I used 1 teaspoon for a tall glass) and a sprinkle of salt.

As a hot tea, I found this quite strong on the base notes and the top notes, but it’s the balanced middle notes I sometimes find missing in a tea.

Probably branching out to yancha-specific vendors moving forward, but happy to have tried Yunnan Sourcing’s offerings as a reference point.

Oh man I am SO behind on Steepster reviewing but here we go.

Enjoyed this over two sessions gongfu style in a clay pot.

Tasting notes on package say: roast, sweet cream, fruit, sweet smoke aftertaste. I’d say all of that is on point. Has a bite of astringency if overbrewed, but the bitterness is huigan (lingering sweetness) if brewed with care.

Reminds me of a fruitier, deeper, slightly smoked version of the Old Master Dong Ding

Profile

Bio

Australian tea drinker from Sydney.

I enjoy all kinds of tea except rooibos. Black and roasted oolongs are my true lovers while green tea makes me a little dizzy. Pu-erh I have yet to explore, despite being gifted several cakes. On the look-out for a great herbal tea and also getting the matcha madness.

Have yet to add everything to my Steepster cupboard, but would be interested in an Australian tea swap in the future!

The variety here is not as extensive as other places due to import regulations and the cost of shipping but I own and like stuff from Harney & Sons, Lupicia, T2, Teavivre, Butiki, Mariage Freres, Verdant, Yunnan Sourcing and Whispering Pines Tea Company.
