I almost skipped this tea from the TTB because I didn’t feel like looking up the translation for what kind of tea it is, but I’m glad I bothered! The mint is quite fresh and tasty, and it goes surprisingly well with the mellow black tea. I enjoy stevia, so I didn’t mind seeing it in this blend. I drank a cup of this cold with only a bit of sugar, and it was pretty refreshing and lovely. It’s a simple blend, but I would totally drink it again.
This tea fades sadly. Also there are lots of dust in the bag, instead of nicely curled leaves.
The flavours fell flat too as well. Green notes, vegetal, smooth and a little creamy, but definitely less complex and shorter aftertaste.
I guess that this tea will be focused for a sipdown. Afterall, two years in my cupboard; and as I bought it in January, definitely not freshest tea when bought, too. Trying it very fresh would be an interesting experience for sure, though!
Ah, my Japanese oolong from almost year old trip to Poland. And yet I am here to write a tasting note, which would be nonewhere as descriptive as that one from derk.
I preprared it western, quite heavy with the leaf using close to boiling water (I haven’t realised it is rather on the green side) with many stems in my strainer.
But it doesn’t seemed as a flaw in taste. It was… borrowing derk’s words indeed little with umami, dry grassy tea. Little a bit stone-fruity, as she mentions as well, little bit floral and little bit mineral. Flavours seem weak in taste but each other complement other one well.
Nice mouthfeel I will something I will mention as well. It was silky and lightly mineral, that’s something I have to agree again, with quite long aftertaste, compared to short flavour notes. Nice easygoing oolong for simple afternoons. There are days that you do not want a complex tea, yet some good one with nice flavours. This is that one tea.
Rating lower considering other oolongs I had before. Japan isn’t oolong country and somehow it is noticeable in this tea. However, it wasn’t bad and I highly suggest giving them a try. When I had it in Poznan, I wanted to rate it right after with rating around 90, so maybe it has suffered the age a bit as well, maybe I was affected with the coziness of tea room, great cake, nice service and that I was drinking something hot and tasty in cold, first January day.
Preparation
A mild, subtly umami-driven oolong from Japan. Low-toned peach cobbler aroma and taste, hidden spice and cooked berries, papery-plumeria floral tone. Silky and salty-mineral mouthfeel leaves the tongue coated in oil. Creamy-drying custard apple aftertaste.
Thank you, Martin, for the experience to try another Japanese oolong. This one is muted in comparison to the 3 others I’ve tried but is refreshingly easy-going.

TeaTiff TTB #17
I’ve really been enjoying tasting many of the teas Martin added to the box from companies I’ve never experienced or even heard of on my own! However, I would have skipped this one if I’d looked it up on Steepster ahead of time. Stevia is one of those tea additives I hate with a passion and there is a LOT of it in this blend. A hint of freshness from the mint, a bit of depth from the base, but all overwhelmed by the sickly sweet, tongue-curling taste of stevia. Not sure I can even finish this cup. Such a disappointment!
Flavors: Mint, Stevia, Sweet
Preparation
How sad that I have to agree with you completely. Sorry that it was such a miss! I chose it purely because I liked the leaf quality and name, no idea that stevia will be in. I was expecting just mint and tea… that sounded “Pesian” enough.
This tea is from my Poland trip made in the end of 2021 and start of 2022. I bought it in “Pod Lampionami” tearoom in Poznan (search for pictures, it is super cute and cozy). Translated name means “From Persian Market”
However, this tea seems not being from them directly. I have found (and downloaded pic from) Herbatyczas.pl — seems they have more teas from them in Poznan tearoom. I have added it under “Pod Lampionami”, because bought there, however not sure if it’s correct at all.
I bought it on blind buy… I just saw the glass container and it was looking nice, but no ingredients were listed. So, that said, I am not even sure about ingredients. But if they really used Persian tea base, I think it’s amazing.
However…
let’s try the tea. First of all, I notice mostly mint. They say it is nana mint and I didn’t had that much, but seems to be indeed that, but my limited experience notices only mint.
Based on taste, it indeed contains stevia. Sadly, it is indeed very sweet. The mint is refreshing. But the base tea is muted from the stevia. Argh! Why to kill so great, Iranian, tea with sh*tload of stevia?
I am so disappointed. I will save a little, but the rest will go to the TTB for sure.
On the other news: my mother was tested positive for Covid. We made a little improvised quarantine at home, but it is only improvised :(
Flavors: Mint, Stevia, Sweet
Preparation
Oh dear, I hope your mom and your whole household stays safe and well.
Ftr, nana in Arabic means mint. Farsi has adopted some words from Arabic. Perhaps this is one of them. As far as I know, nana does not specify any particular type of mint, just mint.
Oh, in both Morocco and Egypt, I remember nana referred to fresh spearmint. Whether that was specifying kind or that is the regional garden variety available, that I don’t know.
Speedy recovery to her I hope. Expect the first week to be rough. I am finally getting over my case of it.
Thank you all! She is doing well, the symptoms are gone and she is just tired often. I am in quarantine till Sunday and I was supposed to be in since Wednesday, but no-one (from Public health offices) wrote me before.
I read the SMS today at work (where I have been tested yesterday — negative) that I am supposed to be in quarantine. Well, dang. Welcome to the Czech Republic
ashmanra we are happy as well. And we get used to it pretty well I think. It’s not fun, but it is not that bad at all.
I am glad that you liked it. If you want, I have lots of rest in my office and I am willing to send it to you, as I am not a fan :)
I’m afraid I don’t drink caffeinated tea often enough to keep much in stock, but I appreciate the offer!
Well, you would drink it more often than I, I guess. I prepared it just once since I brought it there. Maybe twice?!
