Sounds interesting. I think it would be better if you kept it more towards the $50 amount though. Maybe a few less teas.

or perhaps offer two tiers?

AllanK said

That does not sound workable unless done as two completely separate group orders and there would not likely be enough participation for both. One of the nice things about past group orders is they have been relatively cheap.

Personally I have no issue with spending the money. That said, I would be interested in some well-known aged teas, the ones that are generally known to the well-educated puerh community (of which I am most certainly not a member!). I’m talking about the kind of teas you’d find in every major collector’s pumidor. If I’m going to spend that kind of money, and I really am willing to do so, I just want to know I’m getting really good stuff. I’m not interested in anything experimental or risky. Unfortunately I’ve learned in my still very new forays into aged puerh, old does not necessarily mean good. Just my two cents.

Good to know! See, this is why I am not in charge ;-)

That cake from Sunsing will provide great conversations between all who participate; this I am sure of.

The price will depend on how many people join. It’ll probably be $1000 to $1200 in total, with only 10 people… no way $50 will cut it.

It sounds like the idea of this buy was to go up the quality ladder for the smaller group who have the interest and cash. Liquid Proust is still running many less expensive group buys, for those who don’t want to splurge, but this sounds like an opportunity for those of us who do.

Haven’t made my decision for mxtea yet, but it’ll be a cake split between us all and not samples.

Indeed :) I’m looking at cakes that won’t be around much longer to buy so we can all have multiple sessions and discuss them. The private buys will be tricky, but I’ll put the work in for us all so this is as enjoyable as it can be with the $ level we have… As you know, Sunsing has cakes that cost more than I make a year :p so we have limits here.

A good tea for this is one I have already tried, the 1996 Dayi Lao Cha Tou nuggets from Aliexpress King Tea. They are quite good and I believe the age to be accurate. They are somewhat expensive but probably less so than the other stuff Liquid Proust has been thinking of. Technically the name is a little different than I listed but I’m close. There is no way to confirm that they are Dayi however except that King Tea is a trustworthy source.

I have not tried that one but so far King Tea has been on the level with me. The 1996 Lao Cha Tou was really incredible. I could arrange to send you a sample if you want. The cake you picked I cannot specifically recommend as I have not bought it. I also reviewed a 1980’s and 1990’s shou that he sent me samples of. As I recall I really liked one and the other was Ok. I reviewed them too and can probably find the links if you want me to. I don’t know if he still has them.
